Since early 2020, masks have been promoted by experts and implemented as mandates by politicians in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19…but a thorough examination of the data shows they’ve failed.
Masks have been a ubiquitous and oft-politicized aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic. Years of painstakingly organized pre-pandemic planning documents led public health experts to initially discourage the use of masks, or even insinuate that they could lead to increased rates of spread.
Yet seemingly in a matter of days in spring 2020, leading infectious disease scientists and organizations reversed their previous positions and recommended masking as the key tool to slow the spread of COVID and dramatically reduce infections.
Unmasked tells the story of how effective or ineffective masks and mask mandate policies were in impacting the trajectory of the pandemic throughout the world.
Author Ian Miller covers the earliest days of the pandemic, from experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci contradicting their previous statements and recommending masks as the most important policy intervention against the spread of COVID, to the months afterward as many locations around the globe mandated masks in nearly all public settings.
With easy-to-understand charts and visual aids, along with detailed, clear explanations of the dramatic shift in policy and expectations, Unmasked makes the data-driven case that masks might not have achieved the goals that Fauci and other public health experts created.

Ian provides the graphical evidence that thoroughly discredits the myth that masks provide any discernible protection from viruses. He also asks why the failed predictions of doom spread by the media, modelling and experts about not masking are never scrutinised or revisited. Just like the Spanish flu 100 years ago, masking did not prevent huge numbers of cases and deaths from a virus.

The Most Important Book of the 2020-2022 Pandemic Era

Mask mandates don’t work. Not even a little bit.
Ian Miller destroys the bogus “mask up, stay safe” narrative promulgated and perpetuated by so-called experts, officials, cultural leaders, and tech/media oligarchs.
Supporting the forced masking of others does not make you a good person. It does not make you an informed person. It does not make you moral or compassionate or any of that. It makes you a petty tyrant with a predilection for medieval mysticism. It makes you an ignorant busybody Karen. Supporting forced masking places you in opposition to reason, evidence, and the scientific method itself.
Ian Miller’s book takes the arguments and predictions of experts and systematically shows us that these wannabe emperors, including Dr. Fauci and many others in the highest echelons of the permanent bureaucracy, all have no clothes. They violated our rights. They frayed social cohesion. They disregarded their own carefully researched and written pandemic plans. The expert class was wrong about a lot of things during the 2020-2022 era, but the love the expert class had and still has for forced masking is difficult to top on the wrongness meter.
This book, unfortunately, will be mostly ignored by the people who need it the most, but that doesn’t mean it preaches to the choir. It is methodical. It starts at the start and demonstrates beyond any reasonable doubt that forced masking never made any sense.
Every library in America should have at least as many copies of this book as they will have of the future Dr. Fauci memoirs. All school administrators, in order to keep their jobs, should be required to write detailed book reports on this book. Government officials should get free copies of this book as they serve their sentences. This book must also be carefully preserved and translated into whatever language humans are speaking in the future.
Mask mandates don’t work. Not even a little bit. When the history of the COVID era is written, this book will stand out as the definitive tome on the failure of forced mask policies.

Debunking the CDC by their own hand
Reviewed in the United States on 23 February 2022Verified Purchase
I think the biggest misconception around Ian's work is that it is invalid due to its focus on a single variable, the mass implementation of masks, in relation to the spread of COVID, without looking at other possible variables. However, I don't believe the purpose of Unmasked is to disprove the efficacy of face masks during a pandemic, as that had already been done by the CDC, their associated organizations abroad, and the WHO prior to 2020; and by randomized controlled trials and other scientific studies afterward. I believe the point of Ian's writing and charts is that the publicly available COVID specimen, hospitalization, and mortality data continue to invalidate the claims made by politicians, and unfortunately the CDC and WHO, singing the praises of putting everybody in masks. For example, it is reasonable to expect that if the CDC was correct in saying that masks could reduce transmission by about 80%, then we'd see an incredible effect size in a graph comparing a place with high masking compliance versus one with low compliance. Ian has done a thorough, amazing job at not only stacking up these claims against the data and performing the same kinds of regional comparisons The Experts(tm) have proposed, but also calling attention to the greatest mystery of this bizarre pandemic, and that is why these once trustworthy scientists and health professionals have suddenly changed their tune on an intervention that they spent decades proving (with real science) to not be effective, and continued to push the narrative at the expense of their credibility. This book simply proves that they were right in the first place, and serves as a historical document to remind us of this fact when the next pandemic comes along. I've seen hints from Ian of a second book, and I can't wait to pick it up too.

A book that follows the science
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2022Verified Purchase
In 2020 and 2021, humanity ran one of the largest experiments in the history of science: billions were subjected to COVID mask mandates. It's left us with a lot to discuss - such as the catastrophic damage they did to the social and linguistic development of an entire generation - but one question stands above all: did they even work? Did mask mandates - which were never a feature of any country's pre-existing pandemic plans - do anything whatsoever to achieve their stated goals?
At this point it's incredible that the question still needs asking. The total failure of COVID mask mandates should be obvious by now to anyone with basic powers of observation, but if you've spent the last two years covering your eyes and ears as well as your air-holes, please bash yourself over the head with a copy of Unmasked. In this short book, Ian Miller crunches the numbers from dozens of countries and all fifty U.S. states and, with page after page of graphs and data, conclusively shows that which barely needed proving: mask mandates don't work. They didn't make a difference. They didn't achieve anything. They're worthless. They're useless. They're ineffective. They didn't slow the spread. They didn't flatten the curve. They failed. They expired. They have ceased to be. They're bereft of use. They should be an ex-policy.
Stop me if I'm being repetitive. I'm not sure what I'm hoping to achieve, as I'm under no illusion that the people who need to read this book will go anywhere near it. You can't reason with cults, and it's not like the Branch Covidians to let pesky things like "evidence" get in the way of their desire to control people. Even as I write this in the 27th month of "two weeks to flatten the curve", some U.S. counties are reinstating their moronic mask mandates for the umpteenth time. What's the mantra this time, that "real masking has never been tried"? Those who scream the loudest about "following The Science!!!!" have proven repeatedly that they don't.
To historians reading this in the distant future: I'm sure you're aghast at how stupid and irrational humanity has been acting lately, but please don't tar us all with the same brush. Some of us knew. *Some of us knew.*

Ian Miller and his many charts show the story of covid mandates and lock downs. Nothing that was forced on anyone, anywhere throughout the world made any positive difference. It was all about illusion and control.
If you are a person who thinks the mandates and lock downs were necessary and beneficial, you must read this book.
