*INTENDED FOR ADULT AUDIENCE*

ATLANTA SERIES BOOK 1:

Erin never would have expected to fall in love. Never. Not with her past, and not with her fear. She never dated; she didn't even allow herself friendships. She didn't trust her judge-of-character skills enough to allow anyone close...until Marcus.

With him, a deep connection happened in spite of the walls she'd so carefully constructed around herself. His self-confessed rage fueled much of his life, with the exception of her. For Erin, Marcus dares to make the step toward love…one with the potential to heal them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique & loved it! 1 November 2013

It's official - this was a 5+ star story for me. I was pulled right in to the story, and loved it enough by page 72 that I looked up the author on FB. By the middle of the book, I'd already ordered book 2 in the series. By the end of the book, I was ready to get started on that sequel RIGHTNOW, but as I'm still a paper-book-girl, I'll have to wait til it comes in the mail. : )

This was a super unique premise, in that I hadn't seen it before. We have the fairly common theme of good-girl-and-MMA-fighter-with-heart-of-gold thing going on. But a big portion of the getting to know you stuff and the first hints of romance happen... in a journal. That's right, they get to know each other through a shared journal, while we the reader get to see both the journal entries and each of their lives surrounding them. And the circumstances that cause them to meet in person - and that actual first meeting - *SWOON* I was completely gone. LOVE IT! : )
4.0 out of 5 stars touching & sweet story! 16 April 2015

3.5 Stars - In Unlikely Hero, Kemmie Michaels delivers a different twist on the tempting fighter storyline. The journey that unfolds brings together two opposite personalities in an unexpected and surprisingly sweet way. Erin and Marcus’ unconventional “meeting” had me grinning and I loved that Kemmie Michaels continued with this important piece of the story throughout the rest of the book. I was intrigued by all of the secondary characters that served to fill out and enhance Erin and Marcus’ story. Marcus’ sister was amusing and light, helping Erin break out of her own shell. The emotion and angst that comes along with this novel had me on a complete rollercoaster ride, trying to decide if these two broken souls could find an unlikely hero in each other.

My favorite part of this story was the open communication between Erin and Marcus. Their relationship had a fairly solid foundation and their honesty allowed the reader to really understand them and feel like a part of their world. Erin was a great character, constantly tugging on my heart with her insecurities and flaws. Marcus quickly proved to be a lot more than a fighter, and frankly I was impressed with the care and kindness he showed Erin. There was a definite spark between these two as their story progressed, but at times I lost that feeling of undeniable attraction due to the slow pace of the story. I am definitely intrigued by this author and am looking forward to seeing where Kemmie Michaels plans on taking the rest of the series.
4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected, great find. 16 July 2014

I stumbled upon this book when it was mentioned on one of the many blogs I follow. It is the first thing I've read from this author and it won't be the last.

The book follows the story of Erin as she battles her way out of a traumatic experience in her past. At the advice of her therapist, she starts keeping a journal. One night, she forgets her journal at work and it is discovered by Marcus. He is the overnight janitor at the office she works at and he has his own story of triumph over a rough past. He is also a MMA fighter and has the body to prove it.

The two exchange entries in her journal and through this expression of self, they begin to heal. When Marcus asks to meet in person, Erin shuts down and hides. Marcus, being worried about his girl, tracks her down and calms her fears. She realizes from the onset of meeting him that they're connected and she wants more from him. It was so sweet the way he just held her and when she opened up.

As the story progresses, both characters learn to get go of the hurt from the past. They grow both personally and as a couple. They do face their challenges, in the form of a sleazy co-worker, Erin's dad and Marcus' anger. Together, they work through all of their issues. It was great watching Erin's confidence and inner strength come out. When she stood up for herself and her man against her father I cheered for her. I loved that she was also able to develop relationships with others as well. At work, she blossomed and developed and her work also improved. I liked the bond that Erin formed with Marcus' twin, Cassie.

Overall, it was an easy read. While the story touched on some hard subjects, they were treated with the care and delicacy they deserved. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series, Cassie's story.

Erin is a scared person. She was attacked in college now she hides from everyone. She works very hard but she tries to have little contact with people face to face.

Marcus is a MMA fighter who is working as a janitor while putting his sister thru college. Marcus fights as his outlet for the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father.

Erin wants to change and be happy. She starts writing in a journal for her therapy. Marcus finds it and reads. He writes Erin in her journal to keep fighting. They start writing each other in the journal for a few months before they meet.

They help each other find peace and love in their lives.
