Product Description

Would you live a lie to hold onto the one you love?

Dean and Jason are best friends, like brothers since boyhood, now architecture students and college roommates. They’ve always had each other’s back, but when one walks in on the other with another man, everything changes. How do you explain to your best friend that he’s the one you’ve always wanted, that until now your life has been a lie?

Desperation and shame are two dirty words that run through Jason’s veins. He carries the scars from a wayward priest who stole his innocence and left him shattered. Meanwhile for years he’s watched Dean pursuing woman after woman, as his own heart slowly breaks.

When their world blows apart, they learn the powerful bond between them has more fire than either understood. Can two broken souls find the light in their darkness and come together to make a whole, or will sins of the past be forever unforgiven?

***This standalone is a M/M love story with graphic sex. Trigger warning.

Five Amazing Stars

I was so excited to read and thoroughly enjoyed the most fun, sexy and hot MM book. Written by well known, yet for my first time, Ruth Clampett. I was absolutely addicted to the sexual awakening of both Jason and Dean in the journey of the lives. This was a masterpiece worth while reading.

As Dean approached the all the people invited to their party. The were all enjoying the abundance of alcohol available. It was definitely warming up outside, and a member studying architecture. As Cassie sexually cuddled up to him. She is always dressed up so gorgeously coming on to Dean he always could never work out why she was even here. I really was not fond of her getting drunk expecting sex with me.

Dean now wanted something more I his life. He knew he could always depend on his best friend Jason. They'd known each other since the were young, he could depend on him and share their home too. And he was shocked. Both Jason and Ramon were having sex. Dean was now scared and confused. How could have Jason lie to me?

Dean was now wishing it was him having sex. Expecting Jason would do it now with me. Not even knowing now whatever happened. He just wondered why he didn't choose him. He always thought they would be partner in work, home, business and maybe even more. Now Dean was angry and confused!!

I thoroughly adored this most emotional, sexual masterpiece. Written so well by the unbelievable writing from Ruth Clampett. Such captivating wonderful character. This book is a complete misread for all!!

* I recommend this book to everyone!!

This is my first book that I've read by Ruth Clampett. I have no idea why I haven't read others from her, its something that I fully intent to rectify.
The novel was at times sad and very moving, though for the most part I found it beyond wonderful and definitely uplifting. The overall theme was about unconditional love.
Synopsis briefly:
Jason and Dean, two childhood best friends go to Uni of Utah together studying to become architects.
Jason is gay, in the closet and desperately in love with his best friend Dean.
Dean is straight & oblivious to Jason's awakening sexuality and the depth of Jason 's love for him, though Dean does love Jason- its platonic, brotherly and stems from their years as best friends.
Jason has been the childhood victim of unreported sexual abuse, which impacts on his ability to fully accept that there is nothing wrong with him being gay. He has unresolved issues relating to accepting his sexuality, self worth and is fearful of Dean finding out about his sexuality and his childhood abuse.
One night, in their final year at Uni, Dean walks in on Jason and another man in an sexually explicit situation, which opens Dean's eyes to the fact that his best friend is gay, something that Jason had hidden from him for years.
What follows is at times, an angry, sad, difficult and wonderful journey for the two men where they navigate Dean's angry acceptance of Jason being gay, the impact the childhood sexual abuse has on Jason as an adult which overflows in a variety of challenging ways and the awaking sexuality of Dean as he realizes that he is bisexual and attracted to his best friend.

Unforgiven is one of the toughest, but most rewarding books I’ve ever read. Dean and Jason’s story wasn’t always rainbows, hearts and flowers, but it was raw and real and I couldn’t put it down.

Haunted by events in his past Jason has built a wall around himself, and has kept secrets…huge secrets that mean he’s never truly been himself, even around his best friend Dean.
One night Dean accidentally discovers one of Jason’s secrets and initially doesn’t handle it well - quite honestly Dean was a douche at first. Being a fan of GFY books, I’m familiar with the feelings of confusion and self-disgust that come with realising you like your best friend as more than a best friend. At times Dean’s comments towards and provocation of Jason bordered on bullying. Having said that, Ms Clampett did a fantastic job of turning my feelings towards Dean around, and by the end I liked him just as much as I liked Jason, and fell in love with them as a couple.

Some of the events in the book are both disturbing and heart breaking, but Ms Clampett dealt with them with the sensitivity and compassion that they deserved.

Unforgiven was more than just a book about some horrible events in Jason’s past, it was a beautiful story about finding your place in the world, about hitting rock bottom and fighting your way back to the top, and about finding the person you’re meant to be with – your person!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love will always have your back . . . . 9 March 2017

. . . . Words have kind of left me. My heart is so full of hurt, sadness, anger and of course, love, so much love. I fought with the rating on this, but in the end, I am a total mess, all the feels, good, bad and downright ugly and still floating around and leaving me in a bit of a funk, therefore, this deserves nothing less than 5 stars.

When I saw the teaser for this come across my blog, I was like "YES! I need this!" and somehow convinced my bestie, Ang from PNR Book Lover Reviews to buddy read with me (she will be thinking twice next time lol).

Dual POV normally aren't my fav, it's so easy to get lost and forget whose head you are in if it's not written well. This was not an issue, Ruth's writing style is incredible. You feel every little (or big) emotion these men go through.

Jason (JJ) and Dean have been best friends pretty much forever, only Jason's feelings have always been more than just friendship, he has been secretly in love with Dean all along.

Ashamed and damaged from things from his past that has truly messed with his head and his attraction to men, Jason tries hiding his true self and his true desires by acting like the biggest playboy going around. That's until one night at a party Dean walks in on him and Roman (aka douchebag.)

Dean is straight, like an arrow straight and assumed Jason is just as straight as he is. Walking in on a guy giving JJ head leaves Dean confused, jealous, angry and more worrying to himself, turned on.

While these two explore their new found feelings, and boy does their exploring get hot enough to melt your kindle and leave you heading for a cold shower, they also tackle some really hard subjects and obstacles. This story takes on a Very angsty, bumpy and brutally heartbreaking real and raw road that will leave you crying, from both gut-wrenching sadness to over the moon happiness, cursing, falling in love to growling at your kindle, and that rollercoaster of feels is totally on repeat.

Without giving too much away, this story will take you on a journey that you won't be forgetting in a hurry. Jason and Dean are both strong, courageous, real characters that show you, no, makes you feel that Love is Love is Love and love will always have your back.

5.0 out of 5 stars All For Love... 10 March 2017

Jason Sorentino has been in love with Dean for as long as he can remember. He was always the one to support his dreams unconditionally and became his true family when his mother chose the church over her only child.

Now on the verge of college graduation, Jason longs to reveal his true self and the painful secret that has haunted him for so long. He refuses to think of what his life would be like if Dean wasn’t in it and resigns himself to the fact that they will never be anything more. But what if there is a chance that they could be?

Dean Whitley is the All-American boy. He’s known around campus as a player on and off the field. His friendship with Jason has always been his one constant but lately there seems to be a storm brewing just under the surface.

Finding Jason in a more than compromising position with another guy has made him question everything – even himself. Giving in to his desire for Jason is easy but where they go from there is nothing but complicated.

Can they turn one night into forever or will Jason’s shame set him on a path of self-destruction that not even Dean can save him from?

In Unforgiven, Ruth delivers a one-of-a-kind love story that is as stunning as it is starkly real. Jason and Dean’s journey is one of self-discovery, acceptance and faith - in love and finally in each other.

You will feel rage and you may even shed some tears. But in the end, you will believe that love does indeed triumph over hate. And that is something that the world can use so much more of…

4.0 out of 5 stars An M/M Friends-to-Lovers story that is worth a read! 10 March 2017

I am a sucker for a friends to lovers M/M romance!
Ruth Clampett did a great job with her first story in this genre.

Jason and Dean, longtime best friends, both with a curiosity about each other.
Once they give into that curiosity, it gets STEAMY, and you can really feel the chemistry between the two men.

I did enjoy this book, and the story kept me engrossed throughout it's entirety.
What kept it from being a 5 Star? Dean's character in the beginning.
Some of his dialogue towards Jason, or inner thoughts bothered me a bit.
But, the second half of the book was written beautifully, and it was a solid 4 Stars!

I'm so glad to see new authors taking the leap into writing M/M, it's bringing so many new readers to a great genre!

****SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW that could be
TRIGGERS for some readers****

Heads up for fans of M/M books, this did include some M/F sex scenes.
I know many long time readers of M/M stories don't usually care for this.
For me personally, I do not mind them, as long as it helps the story move forward.
The M/F scenes in this one seemed to move Jason and Dean closer to realizing that they were truly craving each other.

There is also some triggers throughout the story. Sexual Abuse by a Priest, Depression, Self Harm.
At times heartbreaking to read, but adds so much to this beautiful story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is love is love is read of 2016! 2 April 2017

"There’s a part of me that wants to give up. I’m so tired of Earth’s gravity pulling me down when all I want to do is fly far away."

"Little did we know back then that we already had the blueprint etched in our hearts for our future. Falling in love hadn’t been in the original design, but time and experience had taught us that inspired revisions should be a gift to embrace."

What an amazing story this is! Dean and Jason stole my heart! It's an extremely emotional journey that pulls on your heartstrings enters your soul and I think this story will stay with me forever. It deals with first love, best friends, faith, courage, soulmates, patience, acceptance and most of all unconditional love. A tremendous amount of research went into the writing of Unforgiven and I can't even imagine how heart wrenching it must have been. You will laugh, you will cry but most of all you will have a different perspective on recovering from a tormented past that is so well written and beautifully presented in a way that takes your breath away. This is a story that definitely is a must read. Dean and Jason will stay with me for a long time to come and they will be extremely hard to top! This is at the top of my list for 2016 reads!

5.0 out of 5 stars're gay. 14 March 2017

It's the mark of a solid author to serve up a story made of basic parts we've seen before, and to still manage to command the reader's attention. Ruth Clampett gives us a story that is classic in many ways: closeted best friend JJ is discovered by "straight" best friend Dean, spurring both of them to explore the true nature of their connection. JJ grapples with whether his chemistry with Dean is true or just imagined. Dean must sort out his jealous reaction to JJ's secret life--is he merely resentful that JJ has hidden so much from him, or do his feelings run deeper than he knew for his best friend?

I loved the realism I found in this story--JJ's crippling fear of Dean's rejection imprisons him, a fact that is beautifully (and accurately) juxtaposed by the newfound freedom he feels from leaving the closet. What also rings true is the fragility of Dean's comfort zone and the evolution of his self-awareness. He goes from denying his feelings outright, to concluding that he may be "situationally gay" with JJ, to finally decoupling his feelings for JJ from his sexuality overall.

And though my review makes this story sound emotionally wrought (which, at times, it is), I laughed out loud, and often. For all of his denials, Dean is the last person in his life to figure out that he is gay AF. And it's absolutely splendid to watch it all unfold.
