4.0 out of 5 stars Deep emotional connection - more than a steamy read. 26 January 2017

I purchased this book on a whim because the cover caught my eye. It is totally NOT what I would normally pick up, but I realized pretty quickly that it was a spanking (domestic discipline) book. Though I found the subject matter disturbing (if I were writing the story, we'd be finding the husband's body buried somewhere), but the subject of consent was firmly addressed in the plot. Though I didn't care for the plot, I was very impressed with the growth of the characters through the story. I cared about Melania and wanted her to be happy, and I wanted to see the relationship between this new husband and wife flourish. It did. Even though I didn't like how the story ended, it was a satisfying ending. I was surprised to find such a deep emotional connection in a story that I initially anticipated to be simply a quick, steamy read. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because of my personal feelings towards the subject matter.
2.0 out of 5 stars just not for me 31 July 2016

Where do I begin ? I liked part of the book. The love scenes were incredibly hot, but I get no enjoyment reading how a husband causing his wife pain, fiction or not. Then him being dumb enough not to think he hurt his wife. What ? Did he need it beat over his head? After the spanking ( and I use the term loosely) when she told him not to touch her, Jarod should have cancelled their party, apologized to Melania for hurting her, then talked to make sure she was okay. Melania obviously wasn't ready and he should have realized that.

He had no business tying her down. All that did was scare her. Melania made mistakes but I can understand how and why she didn't know what the Rod and Cane Society was. Her parents sheiled her from it. Jarod knew it, he should have taken it into consideration but he didn't. He was to deep in his I am man, thou shall obey me

To be fair to the author, I'll order another book. But I sincerely hope it's different.

Hmmm, I may find the idea of spanky role play erotic, but this woman, with no instruction into the world of domestic domination was caned w/in an inch of passing out from pain (in the real world). Hardly grounds for a good start to their marriage, but it is fiction.
Still, I find it hard to believe that after a chat with a couple of women who enjoy getting actually beaten with canes, (which I have been told is about as painful as it gets) for the endorphins I think most women would prefer a hard run or intense work out at the gym and in the bedroom a hand can be so versatile with similar results.
Still, with respect to consenting adults, the book isn't terribly written and isn't a very long read so, enjoy.

This is the first book I read by authoress, Cara Bristol. I was browsing on kindle when I came across this book and the cover caught my eye, so I decided to read the description and I am so glad I did.

This type of book is probably not for everyone but I am finding out that this type of relationship exists more than one would realize. Without getting too personal, I have been a fan of BDSM for many years but found it to be a bit on the exaggerated side of life. Domestic discipline is the happy medium if you want a fair shake at a story that really could happen and not just in the fantastical sense. I personally do not belong to a "society" or "organization" such as the Rod and Cane Society, which is basically a secret organization of men who spank their wives to maintain order in their homes.

Melania didn't really fit my description of a wife who would be open to such and I guess this is why you are immediately captivated by her reaction upon learning how different this lifestyle was going to be versus what she had in her mind. The romance factor was there and you could feel her yearn for her husband and yet feel so alienated by the harsh reality of what she had literally signed up for.

The inward struggle of the heart will engulf you as you toggle between the character's personal views. This story is told in different angles so you, as the reader, are aware of things that the opposing characters are feeling simultaneously and you want to reach out and comfort them and reassure them and mediate!

There is a soft and romantic undertone to this erotic domestic discipline story. You will not be disappointed if you are a romantic and if you are into the submissive part of a disciplined wife, you will likewise not be disappointed. It is a poignant tale of the unexpected consequences that befall the beautiful bride but the tender moments are there to reel you into their intense and unbridled love and it will literally sweep you off your feet.

I give this five stars. This is a very detailed book. You are not left wondering about any thoughts or emotions or lack thereof. It is if you can hear the voices and feel the yearnings. Your senses will be fully utilized in this erotically charged book. Unexpected consequences is unexpected GOLD.
4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read 13 December 2014

I think this story is a step up from many spanking romances in that the issue of consent is addressed explicitly. I haven't read a lot of this type of story but ones I have usually feature a "heroine" who's a little muffinhead who needs a big strong man to help her smarten up. He drags her across his knee and starts whacking. Melania might be young and rather spoiled, but she's not stupid. And Jared is not a Neanderthal, but a dominant man who craves his wife's submission not because it lessens her, but because it is an act of trust. The way the author depicted Jared as truly being devastated when he thinks he's lost Melania really made him stand out for me. I don't think I'd want to be in a domestic discipline relationship myself, but the author does a good job of showing it respectfully without diminishing the female characters.
