About the Author
As well as encouraging her love of books, Annie's family taught her to love travel and the Australian bush. Often she managed to combine all three. There was the long trek to the marvellous Finders Ranges of South Australia - with Tolkien. Walking in the rugged Grampian Ranges of Victoria - with Tolstoy. And reading gothic romances while camped under the snow gums in the Australian Alps.
She got hooked on romance early. In her teens she spent long afternoons playing tennis with her best friend. Between endless games on baking gravel, they'd stagger to her friend's house to recover, and in that house was an unending store of books, all with that distinctive rose on the cover. That's how Annie discovered romance and she's been addicted ever since. All those strong silent types, flashing-eyed Italians, haughty Spanish aristocrats and the rest. No wonder the boys at school just didn't make the grade.
Fortunately she found her own romantic hero while studying at university. Despite the distraction she completed her honours degree in Classics. She was also fortunate to spend lots of time travelling, backpacking through Egypt and Greece, 'tramping' in New Zealand, sightseeing in Europe and living in Germany a couple of times.
Annie emerged from University with no idea of a career path and took a job in the public service. The perfect preparation for an author! In her first permanent job she spent six weeks proof-reading various versions of the Australian Government's purchasing manual: every - single - word - of - it. Checking the text of a novel is so much more fun! For years Annie wrote and amended and redrafted and revised: government plans, letters for cabinet ministers and reports for parliament. All good grounding for a would-be author.
Then the inevitable happened. Annie decided to write romance. Those books had been a constant through the years of job change and travel. Her chance came when she took leave to spend time with her children. Between preschool and school activities she produced her first novel. At the same time she discovered Romance Writers of Australia (RWAus) - and thank goodness. Without the help of authors who knew what they were doing she might still be writing stories just as good as that first manuscript! Since then she's been active in RWAus writers' groups and competitions, attends annual conferences and loves the support she gets from so many other writers. She had short stories and a romance book published in Australia but it wasn't until late 2005 that she found the success she sought with Harlequin Mills and Boon.
Annie lives with her hero (still the same one after all this time) and her children at Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney. They are neatly situated between the Hunter Valley's marvellous wine country, some of the state's superb beaches and the beautiful lake.
She is always thinking of possible further travel (strictly for research purposes, of course) and in the meantime fantasises about gorgeous men and their love lives. It's hard work but she has no regrets! Her circle of writing friends and her critique partner keep her on the straight and narrow, writing stories she hopes readers will enjoy as much as she does.
Annie loves to hear from readers. You can send her an email at email@example.com or visit her website above. If you prefer to drop her a letter, you can also reach Annie at Po Box 1041 Warners Bay NSW 2282. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

Chloe Daniels housekeeper, is blown away the first time she lays eyes on the naked form of her new boss Declan Carstairs, when she sees him swimming in the nude. It had been difficult to return to this house which held very bad memories for her. Declan proves to be a difficult man to work for, rude arrogant and demanding. Chloe refuses to mollycoddle Declan and stands up to him. Declan soon becomes entranced with his sweet smelling housekeeper, and wonders what she looks and feels like.
This is quite an interesting story, I liked both characters very much. Declan is so full of guilt about his brothers death, he looks to shift some of the responsibility onto Adrian's ex-lover. That is if he can find out who she is. Chloe has her own emotional baggage and knows what it is like to feel deep rooted guilt over the loss of a loved one.
There were times during this tale that I did not like Declan's treatment of Chloe, even though he felt he had good reason. Whereas at some points in the story I thought Chloe should have not tolerated his behaviour. But her feelings were so entangled with Declan, she kept hoping he would see the truth. Undone by his touch is a tale where the supposed facts, hide the real truth. This is an intense and sensual story, well worth reading.
The hero was injured, guilt ridden, indulging in self pity but not cruel and angry. Instead of mean he was grumpy. The heroine did not stand for his pity parties and less than courteous attitude. She stood up to him and encourage him to look at the glass as half full. But she was not disrespectful. I loved this most about this book.
The dilemma could have developed more, not that it was good but for a topic so serious the build up could have been better. However the characters reaction to the situation was real particularly the hero's. The guilt, hurt and feeling of betrayal and confusion.
Also worth mentioning but which was briefly dealt with in the story is that before they became lovers, they actually got to know each other better and established a respectful working relationship.
I would definitely recommend this book.
Chloe Daniels is his housekeeper in the Carinya estate he's now living in. She worked there before he moved in and as the story starts he surprises (and scares) her when he's swimming naked. Their first meeting was interesting and I enjoyed the way their relationship developed. Throughout the story she kept secrets from him and he was dealing with a lot of guilt over his brother's death while they both fight their intense attraction to each other.
Some dislikes: Declan felt so sorry for himself sometimes that he couldn't realize how great he still had it when people every day struggle just to put food on the table. I would have liked to see a little more awareness from him, but he had lost his sight so it's also understandable. Another thing that bugged me was the way he treated Chloe when he thought she'd been lying to him all along (she hadn't been). It was pretty atrocious and very non-heroic. I felt like he could have groveled a little more.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the story and loved the Australian setting. It was a sweet contemporary romance with a lot of emotion. This is my first story by Annie West and it won't be my last.
This book started off very well, had great chemistry and strong conflict. However, it stalled a bit after Declan discovered that Chloe was the woman his brother had been pining for. It had promise to be a 4.5 to 5 star book but the last half did not live up to the first half.
