Can't believe this was written by a guy! Scott you're amazing and this book is incredible.
Who'd believe a SNAG could come in the shape of a muscled boxer?
Well everyone, here he is ... meet Shane.
Beautiful character, fascinating, insightful and gorgeous. Totally the package.
And let's introduce his nemesis ...Kace - broken, fragile and utterly gorgeous both inside and out. She's been in and out of an abusive relationship. Thank you for steering us clear of the transition of a codependent relationship that is required to migrate to happier shores.
It's a love story that embraces the tragedy of abuse, the struggle with recovering and the gift of healing. Beautifully and tragically told, Shakesrean ... Although I doubt he wishes it so xxx
Exquisite story that is in my top 5.
You have managed to express in one sentence what my jumbled up mess of a head, doodles, 2 worn-out pens and pages upon pages of notes have been unable to portray.
Now, I have read a lot of books and yes, there have been books that have made me cry, scream, shout, laugh, sigh....... But this book, this book! Dammit where's a sticky note when I need one... This book has crept inside of me... and I'm crying again gah! This is a book that I NEEDED to read and I am so grateful to all the friends who encouraged me to keep going, when frankly I felt like I couldn't...
Shane Dekkar hit it spot on again, when he said...
"And you probably read as much as you can - to dream. To dream of what
could be. You live through the characters in the books that you read, and
it allows you to have some form of solace, some form of peace..."
Except, I didn't find solace and peace at the start. Scott Hildreth is exceptionally talented at writing things in a raw, real and human way...
IT. IS. LIFE.
IT. ISN'T. ALWAYS. PRETTY.
IT. GOES. ON.
Abuse happens, be it physical or emotional, and Undefeated deals with it in a very real but sensitive way through Kace's story. And I felt the pain, and anguish, and hopelessness as I read... I could feel how she felt... I could understand why she acted in the way she did...
I. FELT. EVERYTHING.
EVERY. SINGLE. THING.
And it tore me apart, ripped me to shreds... that is how good Scott Hildreth's writing is! He got the feelings spot on!
"I don't want to fail...I don't know how to be alone...I doubt, from what he says, that anyone else would want me...Change scares me. It scares me to death."
I was an emotional mess for days...
I pushed through, because a wise person said to me that..."The bad in the book is necessary. It makes it real. Kace is strong. Let her be."
It reminded me of a quote by Madeleine L'Engle ~ "Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light"
"Holy. Mother. Of. God."
^^^ Yes! Kace! You said it! And those were my exact words as I watched their story unfold... or maybe it was ~~~>
Oh, sorry, I'm getting mixed up... that would've been my thought as I was reading the Basil scene... READ IT TO FIND OUT... my lips are sealed!... All I will say is...
"I trembled. I was done. This was it. I wanted to die, right here in the kitchen, beside my precious basil. Ahh, the smell of the sweet basil."
Trust me, you will never look at that common culinary herb in the same light again...ahem!
That brings me on to Ripp *sighs*... Ok, I read Unstoppable first... so there's a bit of a crush thing going on there!
CRAZY ASS GUY.... Finger chicken *snort*
BUT Ripp's going to have to Squish *sniggers* over a bit to make a bit of room for Shane, because I've got a bit of a crush on him now as well... Oh come on, I can't help it! One minute he's acting cute and saying...
and the next...BOOM!
"I'm going to f©$# you until you are incapable of simple basic tasks."
Damn you Scott Hildreth! I feel like I've gone 10 rounds in the ring! But in a good way!
I'm going to steal Kace's words here... because it's my review!
"What happened?" he asked
"You happened, (Scott). You happened,"
I responded, still in a daze.
Slowly, he smiled
That is how I felt after finishing Undefeated!..... I have solace and peace now... Thank-you.
I don't even feel like I should be giving it stars as a rating... this story means so much more to me than a rating of 5 stars... I feel hopeful and empowered...
"When walking away from something we were once committed to, we often hesitate. Deciding to make a major change in life is difficult. But we all reach a point when we're done - done giving to a world that only takes. Until then, you'll want, you'll wait, and you'll contemplate change. When you're truly done, you'll know. You'll know when the time comes.
You'll know when the time comes.
The time has come."

Kace is in an abusive relationship with Josh - he abuses her on a physical, psychological and emotional level. We are so quick to judge women who stay in these abusive relationships and wonder why they don't get out. Kace's abuser gradually started controlling her - cutting her off from her friends and family, not allowing her access to things we take for granted, not allowing her access to money. It ends up with every aspect of her life being controlled and when he thinks she has done something wrong, which is frequently, he uses violence to intimidate her. If you're told you're ugly and worthless often enough then you become to believe it. Kace's only escape is the romance and erotica that she reads on her kindle.
Shane is a boxer and undefeated at that. It is a chance encounter that brings him into Kace's life. He is quiet but exudes confidence and has a strong moral belief system. When a second chance encounter brings him to Kace again and he feels himself drawn to her, he decides he has to act. He instantly recognises the situation that Kace has found herself in. He is highly intuitive when it comes to Kace and sensitive to her needs. Through his support, understanding and belief in her, we start to see Kace shine as she starts to gain her confidence again.
When Kace finds the courage to leave her relationship with Josh, it is Shane that she turns to for support. It is Shane and his friend Mike that become her protectors and help her regain her confidence and rebuild her life. Shane is not without his own issues as he discovers things about his own family that flips his perceptions of them. Together, though, Kace and Shane are a force to be reckoned with. The sexual tension between Kace and Shane grows and grows as Shane is determined to be patient in waiting for Kace to be ready, whilst Kace is frustrated as she believes she is ready.
This book is thought provoking and forced me to confront my own preconceptions about abusive relationships. Shane, Mike and even Mr Martin are the most sensitive guys on the planet ever and they are very much in tune with their surroundings. We need more men like these in the real world! Whilst I loved this book and I loved the relationship between Kace and Shane, the way that Shane slipped into in-depth psychological talk about abuse from the chit chat/fighter's talk didn't quite fit for me. Saying that it is beautifully written, with characters in Kace, Shane and Mike that leave you wanting more. This, for me, is one of the must reads of the year, and one that I will come back to again and again.
This is the first story I've read from Scott Hildreth and you can be damn sure it won't be the last !! I have seen this book all over social media and have heard many good things with a lot of friends raving about it and it did not disappoint one bit it is absolutely deserving of the hype. I found this book raw, real and very rousing.
I have seen other reviews class this as dark but for me I didn't get that at all, for me this was just real.
The story delves into the issue of abuse and domestic violence which yes I understand can be uncomfortable for some people to read and deal with , however the fact of the matter is situations like like happen all over the world - very sad but unfortunately true, for me Mr Hildreth totally captured my attention and drew me into the world of these characters. It provoked me into thinking of the issues of abuse and how people can hide it so well do we really know our fellow friends or neighbours could this be happening right among us but we don't see the signs ??
I would say this is worth it's weight in gold if it reaches out to any person in a similar situation and provides them the courage to take a stand and say no I will not take this.
I have to admit the main reason I have been put off reading this until now is the fact it's based around boxing -I am not a big fan of the sport however this blew me away, the detailing and descriptions of scenes from this author had me gripped and right there in the ring with the boxers. While I will probably never be a boxing fan I could definitely appreciate it within the pages of this story and I look forward to ready the other fight books from Mr Hildreth.
Top marks for this book I know it will be one I will return too for a re-read time and again.
The author is male, and my advice to you is to not write a book from a female pov you just did not convey female emotions in a good way at all, please i beg you listen to the women in your life before you write about women again.
Im sorry to write a bad review, because i so wanted this book to get better, and it did not.
So THIS book was.....well.......just an emotionally driven and thought provoking lovely love story but with some really harsh reality thrown in. At times the story isn't pretty as the theme is indeed not pleasant as any form of abuse isn't. But the scenes within the book were well written and I felt the emotion leap from the pages.
I also truly love the idea of fate and wholeheartedly believe in this. A chance encounter between Shane and Kace occurs. No big deal, but 2 years later they meet again and Shane feels compelled to act on it.
I loved Shane x he is such a sweetheart. A gentle giant. Kace was also adorable and although she had gone through all she had, with the right encouragement, she became a strong and courageous woman in her own right.
I also kind of agree with the idea that we can be a product of our parenting and upbringing and that when we are subject to negativity it takes strength to break the mould and not fall into the negative perpetual and generational circle, whatever form that may be.
So the sex scenes were......well........HOT!!! holy hotness were they HOT!
I also must mention Ripp again as he was totally fab in this story and I'm glad he got his own story too.
So yeah! I loved this story, and the ending was.....just.....sigh!
Five freaking awesome stars
