Twins have always been a fascination to me, so when I was offered the chance to read and review this book, I jumped at it. J.S. Lark has crafted a very thrilling and intriguing tale that explores the once inseparable relationship between identical twins Sarah and Susan and how the choice of one man, fractures that relationship.
The characters of Sarah and Susan have been very well created and are each brought to life vividly. We get an in-depth view of their childhood and how those events shaped them into the woman they have become in the present. They did not have an easy life and through this, has you feeling a whole range of emotions towards them.
The Twins is a very complex and compelling tale and does require a lot of concentration. The book moves through two different timelines and switches from the perspective of the two women, but it is not immediately clear where it has gone to or from who’s perspective up front, which does cause some confusion, but also keeps you as the reader on your toes.
If you love a story that completely messes with your head, then The Twins is definitely for you. It has been very well written, fraught with so much tension and suspense with plenty of twists and turns, that all leads to a jaw dropping outcome. Well played J.S. Lark, very well played indeed!

I can honestly say that I didn’t really warm to either of the main characters Susan and Sarah. They are identical twins and as children they were very close and enjoyed the kind of telepathy that you often find with twins. When the story begins in the present day, we learn that the twins have been estranged for a number of years for reasons which gradually become clear. I was suspicious of both characters but that could just be my paranoia where I suspect everybody and believe nobody. Neither of them seemed to be exactly trustworthy and I got the impression that they were both hiding something. What happens? Well for the answer to that question and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
It took me a little while to get into this book. I think that that was in part due to the fact that I didn’t really take to either of the main characters and partly because I was tired when I started to read the book. However, once I got into the story then that was it and I was away. The more of the book I read, the more questions I had that needed answering and the more of the book I had to read. The pages turned over fairly quickly as I worked my way through the story and I unpicked what really had happened between the twins that led to their estrangement. I smugly thought that I had worked out what was going to happen, only to realise that I had the complete wrong end of the stick. This was one of those books that gripped me from very early on and kept my attention until the end of the story.
‘The Twins’ is really well written. I love the way in which the author has come up with an attention grabbing synopsis that draws you into the story. She has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. She weaves twists and turns into the story with ease and she certainly knows how to keep the reader guessing. I felt as though I was part of the story and that’s thanks to J. S. Lark’s very vivid and realistic storytelling.
In short, I really enjoyed reading ‘The Twins’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more from this author in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.

It hooks you from the start and makes your mind work overdrive guessing what the plot might be.
A real page turner with twists along the way.
You really get to feel and like the characters.
The ending really makes you question everything you have read.
What is real and what is not?!?

There were twists and turns and an intriguing plot.
The characters were well "fleshed out" and I loved the detail of everything the characters did, I was there!
I can recommend this book, one of the best Ive read since lockdown began.
I particularly loved the grittiness of the plot, no nicey nicey heros or heroines.
