I see why some people were disturbed about the 15/16 year old girls having sex, but the truth is that teens so often do. When my daughter was in 6th grade, there was a girl in her class that was pregnant. That is a fact of life whether or not you want to know about it, so why give the book poor ratings just because you don't think it's the right thing for them to do? Neither do I, but that isn't going to stop them and it isn't the author's fault that she acknowledges it. Shame on you people for rating the book low because of that particular fact of life. It isn't the author's fault and the book shouldn't suffer because of that. It's a real part of what happens sometimes to teenagers who don't really understand the world and what bad people are capable of doing. It's also a real part of the world for children who have such disfunctional families. It also is a lesson in how difficult it is to be a good parent and how your children may make poor decisions (and probably will) , in spite of everything you try to do.
SPOILER ALERT...I would have given this book 5 stars - very few grammatical errors, well written, etc. - except for the fact that I just couldn't quite believe that anyone could be married for 16 years, work together, live together, vacation together, and STILL have such poor communication skills. I have been married for 34 years, and I simply cannot conceive of so much misunderstanding. He didn't tell her that the child was special needs? He didn't tell her that he didn't even know about the child until 2 months before the incident? He didn't tell her WHY he felt so responsible for the child's mother? He couldn't tell his wife that he loved her? He's supposed to be a very famous author, and he doesn't know how to communicate? Seriously? Not believable for me.
However, all that said, I wish I could afford to buy more of her books, but since my husband got "downsized" a couple of years ago and started his own business and since I read at least 1 book and day and usually 2 books a day, I can't afford any of her books that are not on Amazon Prime lending or Book Bub specials or something. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you, Susan Lewis.
