Great story!! I loved the "Britishness" with just enough "raunchyness" to keep it interesting. I found the London of the 60s and 70s to be fascinating. The early memories of pre-war and war time London were also "spot on" as the Brits say. With my love of the West Indies I found the time Charlie spent there and his point of view as a surgeon particulary interesting. I usually can forecast an ending half way through but this one kept me guessing right to the end.

A wonderful tale of a young boy's journey towards manhood, and a young man's journey toward his long held dream of becoming a surgeon. In spite of many and varied escapades along the way both goals were successfully achieved, and the story continues to a surprising twist at the end. Sit back and enjoy the fun.

A very interesting story of the UK in the '60 and '70s.

Hilarious, outrageous, and very refreshing. And humor-wise, so very British! I bought the book because I am a personal friend of the author and I was curious to read what he had to say. This book may not be for the fainthearted, but I'm not one of them. From the very beginning I could not put it down. It is so entertaining, and reading it until the very end is an absolute must, because there is a surprise twist in the last chapter that leaves you scratching your head. I will most certainly read it again and again, in case I missed some of the finer points.
