TriggerPoint GRID foam rollers feature a patented design that offers a superior, multi-density exterior constructed over a rigid, hollow core that withstands repeated use while maintaining shape and integrity. The proven durability of the GRID has helped make it a trusted tool of physical therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers and professional athletes. The GRID can be used to roll through tight muscles, knots and kinks to reduce soreness and improve mobility. Regular use of the GRID can provide benefits such as recovery from (or preventing) injuries, decreased muscle and joint pain, increased circulation and flexibility, improved balance and mobility and preparing the body for peak performance. The distinctive, multi-dimensional surfaces of the GRID replicate the feeling of a massage therapist’s hands - wide and flat like the palm, long and tubular like the fingers, and small and firm like the finger tips. The textured surface of the GRID helps to maximize the flow of blood and oxygen to heal tissue. TriggerPoint GRID foam rollers are available in three sizes and two densities. Regular density models include the original 13-inch GRID, the 26-inch GRID 2.0, and the 4-inch travel-friendly GRID Mini. The 13-inch GRID X features extra dense foam for working the tightest muscles. Purchase of any TriggerPoint GRID foam roller includes free access to an online instructional video library from the experts at TriggerPoint that illustrate the best foam roller techniques. 1-year warranty.

I don't use it on my back, but I probably should. I have never had any complaints in that area, so I pretty much only use it on my legs.
In terms of the patterns, I don't think they make any difference. It's very much marketing talk when they say it mimics fingers and palms. It all feels the same on the muscle, its firm enough to do the job yet cushioned to not feel like I'm brushing against hard plastic.
- Rigid and can take my weight (about 70kg) in different positions, has not lost shape after many months of use
- Does wonder for your muscle recovery after intense sessions, my legs definitely feel less sore afterwards
- Small and light enough to carry around, and you can store items inside the hollow if taking to gym
- With the hollow it is much easier to pick up (with one hand) compared to a traditional roller without
- If you're quite big and tall, this may be too small for massaging both legs at the same time
- Light, easy to pack in your sports bag
- Hollow, makes it easy to stuff with clothes if you're taking it on holiday
- Plastic inner core gives it a good amount of pressure for massaging
- Fantastic build quality
- The only thing I would say is there are some similar cheaper alternatives out there, but the quality and reputability of the brand makes buying a TP version worth it.
She advised that to help this i should perform a number of stretches and also use one of these to massage out the ITB muscle (Long muscle that runs down the side of the leg - i believe)
So far it's been good, it hurts a little when using this but seems to replicate what a massage could do to a certain level. It's also great to use on other muscles and parts of the body, for example the back. In my routine I've actually started using it on these areas just because i can and it feels nice.
It's got a solid build quality, mine is the smaller version so quite compact and fits into my burton rucksack. I opted for the smaller one for portability but they offer a larger one too.
Personally i think it's a little overpriced (£33) but certainly does what it suggests. I paid this much as my physio recomended it....you could use an air freshner can / deodorant can to get a similar effect but onbviously you would lose out on the comfort factor of the outer rubber on this item.
I would recommend this and if you can get it for around £20-25 then go for it definately!
Unlike other solid foam rollers, the SMR roller does not lose its shape as significantly over time.
As it has an hollow centre, I can put stuff inside, therefore saving space.
It looks much better than many other foam rollers.
I bought the medium size as the long size in only necessary for a limited number of extra uses and most people should only need this size.
This is a solid foam roller and, due to its solid internal centre, will not lose this solid feel over time.
I cannot think of any real negatives, although I am yet to notice a substantial and necessary difference between the different texture zones (which are meant to simulate different hand pressure applications).
Have owned others such as an entry level foam one, a rumble roller and a cheaper version of this and the TP Grid wins hands down.
Its not too hard that it creates pain (the bad kind) but its firm enough to get the good pain and muscle relief I required.
I use it along with yoga tune up balls and take it to the gym with me to roll before and after training.
Would buy again.
Starting with the negative, it would be useful to have a guide with some stretches but I found loads online and on YouTube. Once I had those and practised them to get them right I could tell the difference in a couple of days.
On the positives, I had less lactic build up, or maybe it was dissipated quicker and I used it before runs as a warm-up instead of stretching and found my legs to be fresher during and after the run.
Some of the exercises are like torture (IT band!) but definitely do the job.
A great bit of kit that I'll continue to use before runs
Good to have in your arsenal of recovery tools (the Rumble Roller is another good tool to have on hand. The only thing I don't like is the gird on it, I don't even bother with. I think it's pointless, others may disagree. Looking for a good solid foam roller, this is a good choice.
Furthermore this product retains its shape and firmness due to the plastic core, though you will never feel it through the top layer.
I have found this size good for everything I need it for, calfs and quads and has been really good on my back.
I use this product twice a day for about 20mins in total and it is great!
I've used this type of roller before so it was no surprise what I'm buying. It just started becoming embarrassing to always borrow from someone else, as I needed extensive work on my quads.
The hollow core is strong, no issues even though I'm 110 kg. The foam coating is firm, and you can actually feel the difference with each type of surface so it's not just for aesthetics. It comes with a guide for the most common exercises although I suggest consulting with a physiotherapist before using it. Rule of thumb: if it doesn't hurt, you're doing it wrong. :)
