5.0 out of 5 stars The Spinward Fringe Just Keeps Growing! 25 June 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
If you've read any of this author's "Spinward Fringe" series of books (or "Broadcasts" as they're also known - currently he's working on the tenth) you'll already be familiar with much of the universe in which the Chaos Core series is based. A well-written tale of people doing whatever it takes to survive and to seek vengeance against those who would see them dead... or worse. If this is your first taste of Randolph Lalonde's works, you may wish to pick up Spinward Fringe Broadcast 0: Origins which is free. Other works by Mr Lalonde are the "Dark Arts" series which delve into the supernatural or his fantasy series "Brightwill".

5.0 out of 5 stars A treat for established fans and a gateway to those wanting to get a taste of life on the Spinward Fringe. 8 June 2016

Randolph Lalonde once again flexes his story telling muscle. Set in the richly imagined Spinward Fringe universe, this (no pun intended) spin off introduces us to characters affected by events set in motion by the core series of books. Giving loyal readers a look at things from another point of view and providing a wading pool for those looking to take the plunge into the depths of this vibrant universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read 20 August 2016

I've been enjoying the Spinward Fringe novels for years now and I keep buying every new one. This book was a great entrée into a different part of that universe. You've read about the slaves, but this novel let's you get to know one as the main character and in an intimate way.

It's also nice to see the series first lead female character. There are several main female characters already, but Aspen takes in the stature of Jacob Valent.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you're not familiar with Randolph LaLonde, here's a good place to start 11 April 2017

It's LaLonde, what more can I say. If you're a fan (as am I), you've already read this book. If not, buy it and get to know a great up and coming sci-fi author. I love his stuff and will continue reading his products until he decides to stop writing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and overpriced 20 October 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on

I greatly enjoy the author's series that this spun off from. It has characters to whom I am greatly attached. Not so much this novelette. I knocked off a star for unnecessarily harsh language and another for being overpriced for the content given. The storyline didn't engage me or frankly interest me very much. I gave it two stars instead of one for the attempt at a Firefly type plot but the execution was lacking. I encourage readers to try the main series barring the Expendable Few which also has issues.
