This by far is my favorite iteration of Hot Rod. You get two fully playable figures in one with a ton of replay value as well. Very well made. My only two (minor) complaints are the fact his wings/spoiler look a bit small when he converts to Rodimus Prime; My other complaint is that they couldn't find a way to cover his shoulder joints as Rodimus either. All and all though, this toy holds up for both collectors and as an actual play toy for children.

Out of the box it looks fine, if not for some MAJOR KIBBLE (Parts from one mode that show in the other) but the figure itself is subpar at best. Firstly, horrible quality control, the pegs to snap in the legs to the back of Hot Rods vehicle mode is atrocious, with you having to swivel the thighs to lock it in place, except for the fact, the pegs had been molded wrong and even if I was transforming it wrong, it still is a sick excuse of challenge that you give to deranged war criminal if you want to watch them suffer. Secondly, joints are buttery as heck, slip and slide like a, well, slip and slide. Third, It's just not as appealing as the Titans Return Hot Rod, no long blazing pipes, visible engine block giving off that sense of pure horsepower, just a straight piped, engine less hunk of boredom. Rodimus is just meh with some kibbley kibble that just gives off a (EH) feel. Overall a boring downgrade to a previously pretty good figure with a silly evolution gimmick that might (just) be cool to some kid\s, but to most provides a boring sense of "OHHHH?!... Hmph."
Overall a two out of five for some atrocious peg placement, some horrid peg placement, overall blandness and kibbley kibble

There are some things that hardcore critics may like.. For example, some of the pegs are frustratingly tight, and all modes have some poorly hidden kibble from other modes.

With that said, for encapsulating two forms of the same person into a singular toy, this thing is solid. Love that I finally have a Rodimus prime in my collection.

Impressive Leader class, like PotP Optimus Prime, it can do a lot for what it is. The normal robot mode is big and very cool looking, though it does look a bit weird at the shoulders (as its the legs for normal Hot Rod mode) I like how the gun can split into two. The car mode is almost a perfect recreation of the G1 car mode and it rolls great, super sleek look and itself is easy to transform. RV mode is really cool it also looks great, Hot Rod (the smaller robot) is actually really well articulated for whats basically a bonus figure.

Transformation in terms of steps and complexity is easy for a Leader class. HOWEVER, this Transformer is really tab heavy, like, there are a lot of very tight tabs that need things all lined up or one pops out the hole. This does mean whatever mode its in will be completely solid, but you have to be careful with the heavy force you'll need to get things tabbed and untabbed, know where to apply pressure to avoid stressing or breaking the plastic. Getting the car hooked up to the trailer is the main culprit of this.

As such I would not recommend this to a young child whose not experienced with transformers, i did see a review of a parent who bought their son this and they said it was too hard, I'd imagine its because the tabs are too tight and he had trouble getting the arms off right and getting everything tabbed for the car mode.

TLDR Good figure just be prepared to fight the tabs.

Overall Rodimus Prime is awesome he's very big and easy to transform. The only problem I have that I think Hasbro could have put more into are the wheels and the arms. The arms make him look like a gorilla and the wheels are kinda cheaply made other than that he's very cool.
