Product Description

Jake Tucker is broken. At twenty-two, he went in to the Marine Corps a naïve, troubled youth. Nine years and four tours later, Jake finds himself back on US soil, though his mind remains firmly planted in the sands of Afghanistan with the men he left behind.

Wounded, chewed up and spat out by war, Jake has only his dog, Nuke, PTSD, and survivor’s guilt to keep him company. He’s lived every day for nine years wondering when it will be his last, but there’s little comfort in the fact that he’s still standing when his platoon isn’t.

Ellie Mason doesn’t have time for broken. She’s too busy trying to put food on the table. And keeping up with the demands of her autistic son, Spencer, is sometimes like fighting behind enemy lines. As if navigating the minefields of single parenthood isn’t enough, Ellie finds herself drawn to the quiet Marine who’s just as lonely as she is. But she’s loved damaged men before, and it left her wounded.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Fairhope, Alabama, Ellie and Jake find themselves running toward the sound of chaos.

Love is war.
Only the strong survive, and surrender is inevitable.

WOW! I just finished reading this book for the second time. I feel just as emotional as the first time. This story is filled with beautiful heartache. The hero, Jake, is a wounded military veteran. The heroine, Ellie, is a single mother of an autistic child. This story is told so realistically it will take your breath away.

The way Carmen Jenner captures the affects of war veterans is amazing.
"A group of men go to war. They kill, they follow out orders, they sweat, bleed, and hurt, and they lose brothers. No matter how brave or how tough you think you are, every man that ever steps into a war zone comes back different. Some of us with scars you can see and some with scars you can’t."

The daily challenges for an autistic child and their parent is captured in the same amazing style.
"My son is not diseased, it’s not catching, and we’re not looking for a miracle cure or a way to change him. We just need to find a way to work with him. We need to sort out a way to make all of those beautiful puzzle pieces inside his brain fit together."

The lives of Jake and Ellie as they intersect with each other will steal your heart.

Bravo, Carmen Jenner. Thank you for this amazing story. I can't wait to read it a third time. As an animal lover, it overwhelmed my heart the use of dogs in this story. Thank you for that too. I recommend this story to all readers who love romance in real life settings.

OMG WOW…. This book of Carmen Jenner’s is simply awesome….. It’s very different from her other books…… Grab the tissues it’s a bit of a tear jerker…. We meet Jake Tucker who is a former Marine… after spending 9 years and 4 tours in the Marines he finds himself back in the USA a broken man…. Although his mind is back with his men he left behind in Afghanistan. Jake is wounded and finding it really tough…. He has his assistance dog Nuke to help him when times are tough, he has PTSD and he’s also suffering from survivor’s guilt. He spent 9 years in the marines and has lost a lot of friends and spent most days wondering if today was going to be his last.

Ellie Mason, she’s had a tough life….. She fell in love with the wrong type of man, fell pregnant, married him had an autistic son, Spencer, and found herself a single mum after things with her husband Jimmy went from bad to worse….. Her and Spencer settle into life in Fairhope, Alabama. Life for her with Spencer is difficult…..

Ellie and Jake meet by accident…. And she finds herself dawn to him….. they are both lonely… both damaged because of their pasts…… there are a lot of twists and turns in this book that you will not see coming….. Ellie has loved a damaged man before and that didn’t end well….. is she able to do it again???? Jake has been so damaged by what he’s seen over the past 9 years in the marines is he able to set this aside and make a future for himself with Ellie and Spencer???? Make sure you keep the tissues handy as you will definitely be needing them…….. this book is a great read and one I thoroughly enjoyed…

It has been a bit since I finished reading Toward The Sound of Silence, and I am having trouble putting the words together to do it justice.

Every time I pick up a new Carmen Jenner book, I say to my self "Self - this can't be better than her last book."

Toward The Sound of Chaos blew all her other books out of the water (and I have loved and adored each and every one of her books)

She has written a raw, gritty, emotional book about too battered and broken souls finding their way to each other. You can't help but fall for Jake and Ellie as they go through their daily struggles but also helping each other get through.

I can't tell you how many times I had to put my Kindle to the side as the emotion got to me. How many times have you wanted nothing but the silence - but here the times of silence speak the loudest

"My brain fights me at every turn, and it wins, because how do you fight a battle that only wages within your head?"

My heart hurts now just thinking about this book again.

Ellie and Spencer - her struggles felt tangible to me (not from my personal experience, but from the experience of family members). I just wanted to reach through the pages of the book, give her the biggest hug that I can possibly give, tell her how amazing and wonderful she is.

From the moment Jake and Ellie met - in not so auspicious circumstances - I could not help but hope they would make their way to each other, that they could be there to help and heal each other, to make things better.

I hoped they could survive each other.

Then hoped my heart would survive this book.

When Carmen Jenner writes it's flawless. Towards the Sound of Chaos is a brilliant, intense and emotionally exhausting read. Jenner will leave you spellbound with the raw, heartfelt, gut wrenching story of Ellie, Jake and Spencer. Characters that will chip away at your heart until it cracks, the pain and emotion that flood them are heavy, your heart will hurt for each of them. You will be flipping the pages like a maniac after each new discovery of their story, each path they walk across, the deeper you dive into the book the more you feel.

Ellie Mason is getting through each day as best she can. She works to put food on the table and a roof over her head while caring for her son Spencer who has ASD. Ellie’s life is far from easy and her life is Spencer, there is no question that she loves her son but she is lonely and leads a quiet life. She does however like to look at the sexy Marine who just happens to cross her path the same time every morning.

Jake Tucker is a Marine, after four tours in Afghanistan he's broken, damaged, is struggling with PTSD and is riddled with guilt of surviving. He is living a quiet lonely life with his service dog Nuke, each day is a struggle to get through. One day Ellie and Jake’s paths cross and instinct kicks in for Jake, he helps Ellie and Spencer from a car accident. Meeting them changes his life, his once dark and lonely life is about to become a whole lot lighter.

Ellie’s past is about to catch up to her. When Jake steps up and shows how much he is willing to.protect her, they both need to decide if their relationship is worth the struggle and torment they all face. Bringing someone else into Spencer’s life isn't easy, but losing Jake just might be harder.
