What has really jumped off the pages of this book is Nick O'Hern practiced the art of mindfulness long before the term was coined or before in fashion. If every golfer from Tour player to Saturday once a weeker when it is their turn to play asked themselves what I believe is the key sentence from this book: “What do I have to do right now?” The answer for me has always been: “Stay in the present; commit to the process.” Implementing this will help the world of golf no end. I've realised thinking about it over the weekend that implementing this principle is the key to success in non-golf too. Too often, we paralyse ourselves thinking about the past and future when all we have is the present. As Nick said when you're nervous or fearful or worried, put that into action in your life, simply: “What do I have to do right now?” The answer for me has always been: “Stay in the present; commit to the process.” I'm going to try live this mantra.
You know what - I haven't enjoyed golf as much as I have this past weekend. I'd love to play a round with Nick one day. Maybe that'll be my golfing goal for 2017!
Thank you, Nick O'Hern (and Alana) - you are two role models.
