Good second book with some interesting story arcs

Good follow-up to the first book, although it does suffer from 'book 2 of 3' syndrome - there are places where I felt this was just marking time and setting up things for the third installment. However, the Rex and half-darkling part was pretty gripping. Still enjoying the concept, though I'm a bit concerned about the overall flow and plot. I'm going to carry on, but I think the first book may remain the best, and perhaps I should have stopped there.

Despite my advanced age (I'm 60) I love teen and young adult fiction. I read the first in this series (Secret Hour) about a month ago and loved it. This second installment is just as good. There's a little bit of everything here - horror, fantasy, teen romance - and it's all very well written and presented. The plot is well thought out, although the author occasionally loses me in the more complex areas.....Can't wait to read number 3!!

シリーズ第2巻。

グロテスクである。
ミッドナイトの世界に巣食う怪物たちもそうだが、中心人物らもそうだ。
そのひねくれ加減が魅力かと思っていたものの、心を病んでいる感じで、ちょっときつくなってきた。
ちょうど日本の最近のマンガが猟奇性を伴った異常さをよく描くのに似ているような気がする。
そういう時代だということか。
そもそもこのシリーズを知ったのは本屋の児童文学書のコーナーだったが、
いわゆる児童書の中にも、けっこう児童にはどうかと思うようなグロテスク系の嗜好がある。
話は面白いにしても、この深夜的な暗さがしんどいのでちょっと引いてしまうところがある。

前巻の終わりでちょっと暗示されたように、今回明らかになるのは、前の世代の存在。
つまり時間的歴史的次元が加わる。
ということでややこしくもあり、かつ面白くもある。
途中で驚いていると、まだまだ途方もないことが出てくる。

今回ももちろんクライマックスはあるが、さらに次の最終巻でかなりの展開があることが暗示されてまだまだ。
楽しみのような不安なような感じだが、ここまで来たらやめることはできない。
