A very enjoyable historical cozy mystery. It is set in
Edinburgh, Scotland during the Georgian era.
The book starts at the trial of the notorious William
Brodie. Ishbel Campbell is at the trial taking notes.
Ishbel is an Independant woman who studies at the
university by attending lectures. Since the university
does not accept women to study, she can only sit in
on the lectures. While there she drops her handkerchief.
Ewan MacPherson finds it and sets out to find her.
There is instant, undeniable chemistry between the two.
Ishbel’s cousin challenges them to uncover the culprit in
The thief of Lady Tinbough’s emerald necklace. The theft
leads to a more dangerous situation.....The disappearance
of one of the households maids. She is later found dead.
Who murdered the girl? Campbell & MacPherson decide
It as interesting reading about the time period and the
way men and women were viewed. The dresses described
made you feel like you were there.
