4.0 out of 5 stars The Portrait of Victorian Leeds was well-drawn.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 June 2020
We enjoyed reading about the history relating to the Poor Law Guardian elections and was shocked by the level of violence instigated by the possibility of having women on the Board. The main storyline was intriguing and the poetry 'clues' at the scenes of crime added a nice touch. However, there seemed to be two stories running along side each other one taking place in Leeds and one in Whitby, but the two story-lines didn't appear to link up at all except for the fact the two Police Inspectors were friends. However we enjoyed reading about places in our home town of Leeds and overall our Book Group gave it a mark of 7 out of 10.
