The vibration is powerful enough to get your attention. It's the only vibrating type watch I've ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to. It has the following features;
-3 diff time settings that you can switch through. I have one set to 12-hr and another set to 24-hr for military stuff. I don't use the 3rd time much unless Im traveling.
-Chrono timer with Lap or Split timing
-Countdown timer, with "stop at end" or "repeat at end" feature
-Hydration time that counts down from a max time of 59m 59s and repeats automatically
-Chime (never used)
-Beep (never used)
-Occasion reminders (never used)
-3 diff Alarms (never used)
-night mode, push and hold the light butting for 4-5 seconds a half moon icon will appear, then any button pressed illuminates the watch
I will say I experienced some frustration after the first six months because the battery died. I was pretty upset. However here's what you have to remember the vibrating motor is pretty strong. I had this thing set to vibrate every 59m and 59 sec, then it vibrates 7 times and quits. I took my watch off for sleep and never turned off the vibration, so there it went vibrating every hour until the battery died. No fault to Timex. It has a CR2032 battery which is pretty big for a watch, but running that motor is going to wear a little button battery down. You can tell the battery is beginning to lose its power when either the vibration isn't as powerful, it resets itself, or gets all "screwy" doing weird random stuff.
Replacing the battery is very simple, requiring a #00 size cross tip screwdriver, and a sewing needle. When you take the back off be careful not to loose the thin black rubber gasket otherwise it will not be water proof anymore. With the sewing needle there is a little latch that will need to be lightly lifted outwards until it releases and you can lift the battery up.
I had this watch till 2014 when I messed up putting it back together and the rubber gasket didn't seat properly. After giving my two year old a bath. It was filled with water.
I liked so much though I bought an identical watch with a fabric wristband T49854, and still have it to this day. Like most things today if you take good care of it will last forever, but some things are in fact just crap
I wish the vibration alarm was a more common feature among watches -- it's so nice. It's the best way to wake up from a nap or to remind yourself of things quietly in a room of other people you don't want to bother.
