Loved this album, but it's not exactly what you might expect from the Carpenters. If you love this duo, this album is a hidden gem you need to acquire. The only hit on it is "Ticket to Ride," yet there's so much waiting to be discovered and enjoyed by fans.
The first time through I liked it; it was different and yet comfortable. (And better than all of their post-Horizon albums.) But something happened after that first listen: I had to go back and hear it again. And again. And again.
Some of the arrangements might seem dated to the modern ear -- a harpsichord makes an appearance on a couple of the songs, for instance, as well as a trippy reverb used in "Get Together." Then there's the influence of their jazz combo days in the song "All I Can Do." And yet, there's just something so compelling about these songs -- luscious, rich, infectious, and filled with optimism.
