The gear stick is compatible with real universal (automotive) knobs available at car parts stores and big-box retailers, and the two included shift-plates offer your choice of "H"-pattern (7+1) and Sequential (+/-) shifting. The internal mechanism features 100% metal construction with a metal gear stick and clamping system. H.E.A.R.T. “HallEffect AccuRate Technology" offers precision that won't decrease over time (with its contactless magnetic sensor). The firmware is upgradable, and the internal memory offers adjustable gear-shift travel to suit your driving style (software available for download on PC). Buy this, it might be expensive, but it's worth the money trust me wow, nothing to complain about here.

If using with Thrustmaster wheel, plug shifter into pc instead of wheel, if on xbox plug shifter into wheel.

I'm sure the experts could nit pick things about it, but I honestly can't find anything wrong with it, or anything that ruins the emersion.

Will update review if I ever have any issues, had for a couple weeks now no issues at all.

I bought this as part of a rig upgrade, it took a while so it sat in its box for a few months.

First time of trying with my new reg EVERYTHING worked just fine, I liked the feel and for classic cars it is excellent...BUT my second time of using this device it has failed.

The TH8A shifter now fails to be recognised on any PC even after attempting a full reset/update. After researching more I find that this issue is happening to a LOT of people.

Either it is a connection fault, cable fault or even the PCB Board which fails and it happens a LOT MORE than I ever realised, I won't be buying another one or anything else from TM if they do not provide a swift and decisive solution for this issue....trust in the product absolutely zero.

Logitech used to be the goto for cheap racing gear, and I guess it still is. However the G29 shifter is an abomination, this on the other hand is solid, feels realistic and I love it. Shame it doesn't have buttons on it too, but hey all is good.

Very sturdy, comfortable and well constructed. Detected as soon as I connected it to my PC via the USB. I didn't use the Thrustmaster connection cable as I don't have a TM wheel.

I was initially tempted by the Logitech shifter, but reviews mentioned the build quality being low, and the TM shifter being significantly better, and it also happens to be one of the only other options available for a reasonable price.

Being able to loosen off the shifter gate and rotate it 360 degrees increases the convenience, and the number of different mounting possibilities.

The only game I've not been able to use it with so far is Need for Speed 2015, because that game thinks the shifter is the main controller and it makes the menus impossible to navigate, but that's not the fault of the shifter by any means.

The only slight negative is that you have to swap out the shifter gates if you want to switch between this being an H shifter, or sequential, and if you do switch to sequential the movement is kinda loose.

You can really use this shifter with confidence, the construction means it withstands aggressive shifting without worrying something is going to snap or wear out, and the movement of the main shaft is spot-on. There are no rough zones and every gear position is easy to shift into.

My first impression of the quality, fit and finish is very good. Very substantial, weighty feel with very little plastic on show and so far I am fairly satisfied with its operation and set up. Literally plug and play, as windows 7 automatically installed the drivers, and it was recognised by my racing Sim first time. Then it was just a case of mapping the shifting positions (buttons).
The only reason for awarding 4 stars is my slight disappointment with the actual shifting action. The shaft kind of smoothly slides into place rather than clicking or clunking into place like a real gear shifter. Also, the throw is a bit long for gaming. I have tightened the resistance bolt on the side, but this seems to make the action feel even more unrealistic. Though having said that, the throw and action does remind me of an old VW Passat I used to drive. That too was very smooth, but not positive feeling at all. I feel that with the modern high end sports cars you would drive in a sim this will not quite hit the spot in terms of realistic feel.
These irks are not a total deal breaker though, as the G27 shifter it replaces feels like a plastic fisher price toy in comparison.
Overall then, while considering the cost of offerings from Fantec and FrexGP, the TH8A seems well priced for what you get. A solid well made piece of apparatus, which is easy to install and set up and provides a significant upgrade from the G27 shifter.

On sent qu'on a affaire à un produit de qualité, en rapport avec le prix en tous cas. Donc pas décu sur ce point.
Par contre il y a quand même des défauts, d'autant plus regrettables qu'ils étaient très simples à éviter et pour un coût quasi identique.
- Déjà, on pourrait pu avoir des grilles 5 et 6 livrées également. Ou au moins dispo à l'achat mais ca ne semble pas être le cas. Pas chez le constructeur en tous cas.
- Le constructeur communiquant pas mal sur la finition métal, il aurait pu nous gratifier d'une plaque métal pour le cache séquentiel également.
- Pour finir sur les plaques guides, il aurait été intéressant de donner le choix entre esthétique et praticité en mettant dans le bundle 4 vis à main pour ceux souhaitant changer facilement de plaque. C'est une critique qui revient parfois dans les tests, et c'est vrai que le changement n'est pas top pratique.
- Le levier est un peu long comme le disent certain. C'est vrai. Et pour ce que ca doit coûter à fabriquer, TM pourrait proposer 2 longueurs. Encore un point qui ne leur coûterait pas grand chose et apporterait une modularité bienvenue.
Enfin autre point que je trouve assez étonnant, c'est que j'avais acheté ce levier de vitesse TM pour le brancher directement sur la base de mon Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition. Or visiblement ce n'est pas compatible. C'est extrêmement surprenant vu qu'une prise type mini DIN comme celle du levier se trouve sur la base. Ca parait fait pour. Mais non. En branchant le levier de vitesse à là base, il n'est pas reconnu par Windows. Impossible d'installer le pilote, de mettre à jour le FW du levier, et bien sûr de le détecter dans les jeux, seul le volant est détecté. Tout va bien en branchant le levier à part, en USB (tant mieux !) mais moi qui avais pris 2 produits de la même marque pour assurer une compatibilité et n'utiliser qu'un port USB, c'est raté.
Rien de dramatique donc, mais plein de petits points qui au final font penser que TM pouvait facilement améliorer son levier.

For the money, not a bad bit of kit, but in my view, un-usable as standard, it's too loose and springy, certainly not precise and accurate as the above advert suggests. Although, it is fairly solidly built and has the ingredient to be better.

I'd say I'm 3.5 stars verging on 4, but to get this most out of this, I've had to modify it. Which immediately looses any warranty. Plus, the wire in the gear plate for the sequential gear is microscopic, and despite being ultra careful, it pulled out whilst I was fitting he mod and thus now is only a manual gearbox and would make it difficult to sell on if I upgrade.

The modification is a small 3D printed block at the bottom of the stick, with some bearings in it, which causes resistance and gives a solid and positive clunk into the gears. This was about £25, and I'd say a must to make use of this. I also removed the supplied gearnob and got a weighted one of Ebay. The combination of these two makes it substantially better.

Even still, I just don't find it that easy to use, there is something wrong with the way the lateral springs work that doesn't have the gear level lined up in the way a car does.

Eg. I never miss a gear or accidentally put it in the wrong gear when driving a real car on a track, but I regularly do it trying to race with this, which is frustrating. As can make or break a lap.

I guess you have to take all of this into account to the price point, I appreciate there is some very expensive SIM kit about, but this is still nearly £200 and I do think that with a little bit of work, Thrustmaster could make this a much better product, without investing a huge amount of money or making it drastically more expensive to buy.

The fact you can buy an after market product for small change which drastically improves it shows it's possible. Perhaps some heavier duty springs in the lateral (left/right) direction would also allow it to spring back to centre more, so you can have more of a sense of where the stick is without having to look.

In a real car, there is a natural progression from one gear to another, and you can kind of feel where it is, which is missing here.
