Food poisoning, a brutal murder, and a wedding in jeopardy. Can Emma save her friend from jail?

A full-length, standalone cozy mystery.

~~~
Event planner Emma Cassidy has returned to her hometown to rebuild her life. She’s hired to throw a housewarming party for the brash and arrogant Tony Barnet, who’s eager to impress the big end of town. But when the party ends in disaster, Tony is quick to blame Emma, and the subsequent rumors spell doom for Emma’s business.
Thank goodness she still has the job of planning Sean and Madison’s wedding. Sean, one of the notorious McCluskey clan, is about to marry Madison, the beautiful daughter of the rich and powerful Whites. But when Tony Barnet is killed, the police swiftly arrest Sean McCluskey.
Though the evidence is damning, Emma is convinced her friend is innocent. With Sean facing prison, the wedding in jeopardy, and her fledgling business in danger of tanking, Emma must unravel the mystery and expose the real killer before it’s too late.
5.0 out of 5 stars Small Town Murder Mystery 24 August 2016
By You can call me Lynn - Published on Amazon.com
This is an Amateur Sleuth Murder Mystery
Emma Cassidy left her small town in search of her dreams. A decade later, she has a college degree alongside a few life lessons. Returning home with her tail tucked and an empty bank account, she worked hard to start over. Things were looking up until her party planning business had some setbacks, including one former client being murdered and a current one being sent to jail. Could things get any worse for her?
Having lived in a small rural area the last few years, I think Ms. Chester conveys the personality of not only the characters but that of the community very well. It put me in mind of some of the television mystery series based on small towns.
Warning: This is for Mature Audiences due to Violence and Adult Situations.
5.0 out of 5 stars Have you ever had to move back home and try to grow up at the same time? 22 October 2016
I discovered this cozy mystery series just by accident, a happy accident indeed! I thoroughly enjoyed this first book of Karen Chester's Emma Cassidy series. Enough so that I am also looking into further books in the series. Cozy mysteries are a new genre for me, but with books like this one by Karen Chester I think I could be hooked.
Poor Emma, back living at home after attempting her 'life in the big city' that she thought she wanted is now attempting to start a new life. But attempting this while living with Dad and being back in the town where she grew up is a bit of a downer. Too many people know her, too many people have preconceived notions of who Emma is and she is finding it hard to grow up and become the party planner she has wanted to be. And then the disliked man for whom she hosts her first big shindig in town is killed. Where will this lead poor Emma? Read on to see!
4.0 out of 5 stars EVENT WAS A KILLER 21 April 2017
Good long story of a mystery that has quite a few twists to it. Emma comes back to her home town as an event planner. Doing one for Tony, guests got sick, he blames her, business is flagging. She has wedding for Sean yet to do. Then that is in jeopardy when he is accused of murder. With so much to lose, Emma steps in to solve. Good reading for all, and has a good plot to the end.
4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read 11 June 2017
The story line was great and the characters well developed. But, for me, too many paragraphs were devoted to Emma's musings and I found myself skimming over them to get back to the story. I'd get caught up in some real action, and then the book would slow down into a lull. All told, it wasn't "sit on the edge of your seat" enough for me.
5.0 out of 5 stars When in doubt, keep digging 5 June 2016
I started reading about Emma and her business called A Perfect Party. She is a party planner and her big shin dig was a disaster. Now Tony Barnet blames her. He is not paying her for her work or the food. I just knew that Tony did it to make her look bad. I just knew that this was a predictable who done it. I was ready to drop this book but then things go really wrong. I knew it was Sean, no wait, it was Cynthia or maybe her husband. Maybe it was Jorden. There are so many twists and turns that I really enjoyed following Emma in her search for truth and justice for her friends. Now if she could just stop biting at Owen every time he looks her way.
