5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful compact Flashlight
By OzGuy on 10 December 2017
The Thorfire TG06S is a wonderful small size flashlight powered by either a single 14500 LI ION or AA battery.
The specs are,
- XPG2 LED produces 500 lumens max when using a 14500 battery.
- With a 14500 - High(500LM) - Middle(200LM) - Low(50LM) - Moonlight (1LM ) and Strobe
- When using a AA battery - High(150LM) -Middle(80LM) -Low(20LM)-Moonlight (0.5LM ), and Strobe
This is a very compact flashlight that easily fits into a persons pocket or attached to your trousers by securing with the included pocket clip.
The body of the flashlight is very well constructed looks a quality product. The flashlight is delivered in a small box that is strong enough to ensure that the contents are transported damage free. The contents of the box are minimal. There is the flashlight wrapped in bubble wrap, spare set of O rings and the manual. No lanyard or included battery here, just the minimum. A lanyard would be nice here but not the case. Being a low cost or budget flashlight it’s not expected a battery would be included. The flashlight host was free of any blemishes or damage.
The design of the flashlight is based on a tubular design with a rear press button. I was impressed with the quality overall, just in appearance it looks like a decent flashlight. The anodization is nice, the clip is a solid stainless steel construction, and the Led is well centered in a smooth what appear to be aluminum reflector. The threads on the host body at the tail end side are lubed and square.
The rear button feels good. Nice and firm and works well. The 5 modes are accessible by firstly turning on the flashlight with one press then to cycle through the modes it requires then a half press progress. The strobe mode can be activated via two half presses once the flashlight is on. To turn off simply press the rear button once whilst the flashlight is on. No last mode memory which is a little annoying.
Being able to accommodate AA and 14500 batteries I tried a few types. The AA’s tried all fitted nicely. Of the three 14500 batteries used one could not be inserted into the host. Those that did fit were the Efest V1 700mAH flat top and the Nitecore 650mAH button top. The Keepower 800mAh Button top battery diameter was a little too big for the host. I could not insert the battery.
The flashlight can tailstand which is handy at times. Although a lanyard wasn’t included there are holes in the tailcap to allow one to be fitted if needed.
The light output of this small flashlight is extremely good considering its size when using 14500 batteries. With an AA battery the light output is noticeably less but still very useable. In both cases being smaller sized batteries the runtime isn’t great. Very much a flashlight of this size is the type to use when you need only for short periods. For camping where longer runtimes are needed a flashlight using an 18650 battery is more suitable. On high the flashlight host doesn’t heat up too much after a few minutes. The tint appears Neutral.
The output beam pattern provides a good sized hot spot and a nice level of light in the spill area. It’s not a powerful thrower, with a measured lux level of 5,500 at 1m. This being with a 14500 Efest V1 battery.
Overall an excellent compact flashlight. For people looking for a budget priced compact flashlight that produces reasonable levels of light this is a good choice. The convenience of being able to use an AA or 14500 is a big plus as many just don’t have Li Ion batteries nor the chargers needed. Being able to output around 500 lumen is impressive for such a small flashlight. This amount of light is usable for many occasions, however the small sized batteries do limit runtime.
I’d score it 4 ½ stars as it’s not perfect but still a very powerful compact flashlight that is ideal for some.
Pros,
- 500 lumens is very impressive for a small flashlight
- Convenience of AA or 14500 batteries.
- Heat Management on high is very good.
- Excellent quality
Cons
- No lanyard
- Lacking Mode Memory.
- 14500 or AA batteries don’t allow for long runtime unless modes other than high are used.
- Not all 14500 batteries fit.
