Product description

Product Description

Thomas was no one, an orphan with no past and no memories of his early life. The only clue lies in the strange birthmark on his chest, a mark that may or may not reveal his origin, but will certainly guide him to his destiny.

Growing to manhood he will become a man of consequence and influence, yet the greatest gift he has to offer his people lies not in his power, but in his wisdom. As he strives to reach his potential he will face obstacles great and small and he will discover that some foes are too strong to defeat with power alone.

The greatest of evils can only be stopped when those true of heart are willing to sacrifice blood, tears, and sometimes—their lives.

Like all others of his books, Michael had created a world worth living in. All the characters are relatable and you feel like you are living with them.
I couldn't put the book down! Thumbs up every time!! Definitely will retread this!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Simple and disappointing 28 March 2017
By Shane's Brain - Published on Amazon.com

Crazy short and simple story with religious parable type overtones but without any real plot. Started off well in the preview but then was a simple expose with almost no plot twists and definitely no character development.

3.0 out of 5 stars It' Okay 1 April 2017
By Alakar - Published on Amazon.com

Starts pretty good, especially with the early character development of Thomas. However, from there it's just down hill. Really the book feels like it was written based of a D&D campaign the author played.

3.0 out of 5 stars A sweet story but underdeveloped 7 April 2017

I usually gush over the books that Manning writes, but Thomas just did not grab me like his other books. The characters were a bit wooden and their motives less fleshed out. I admit I skimmed pages because I just wanted the story to advance. A so-so book that was well written but lacked heart. If this is a series I most likely will not bother with a second book.
4.0 out of 5 stars A new vein of story line 25 May 2017

A well written story that is not part of anything else he has written to date. Thomas is a stand alone novel so far and has nothing to do with the Mage Born series in any way. The story was well told and done masterfully as is Manning's standard. I enjoyed the book and be aware it is much smaller in length than any of his previous works. The plot line though unique is not far removed from his normal story line. There are multiple Gods in play here with magic users, dwarves and sword play. I did enjoyed his ability to play out the ranger's proclivities which we've not seen in previous novels. All in all a good read and worth the effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy writing, boring plot 19 May 2017
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Sigh where to begin, this book was written poorly and I was surprised the author who has such good series to his name actually wrote it. Poor character development, cliches and overly dramatic moments. The description of the fight scenes and the moments in between that are to build tension only left me rolling my eyes and saying hurry up.
It's written like twilight and it is not good. And parts of the story didn't make sense when put together! I will not write spoilers but come on I expected much better from one of my favorite fiction authors of today.
