Product Description

International Excellence Body, Mind, Spirit Book Awards Winner: Self-help

Women spend so much of life nurturing and giving to others that when they find themselves alone—because of an empty nest, the end of a marriage, or the death of a partner—they often struggle with feeling purposeless. This Way Up: Seven Tools for Unleashing Your Creative Self and Transforming Your Life provides a step-by-step way out of this sense of loss and into a life filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and joy.

This story of healing centers on the essential wisdom of introspection and on the importance of following one’s dreams. Join the protagonist, Katya, a widow whose two sons have recently left home, as she learns seven tools for uncovering her best self: visualization, heart-centered goal setting, positive focus, meditation on love; meditation on forgiveness, gratitude, and taking action on inspiration.
Katya’s experience highlights these insights in an easily digestible, highly relatable format that readers can systematically apply to their own circumstances as they work through This Way Up’s twelve weeks’ worth of day-by-day journaling exercises, thought-provoking questions, and reader support. For any woman who yearns to lead a fuller life but doesn’t know how to begin, this book is an ideal starting point.

Many of my clients struggle with major changes in their lives. Patti Clark has creatively written an innovative and easily understandable guide for helping people move through these difficult life transitions. This Way Up begins with a fictional story of a middle-aged women struggling with empty nest issues. Not only is this unique for self-help books, but it's extremely helpful. By using the voices of three different women, she puts to rest people's resistant questions and thoughts. In the second half of the book, Clark presents a highly workable structure using the chakras as a basis, and stresses creativity and journaling to aid people in moving through difficult times. As an artist and psychotherapist I highly recommend This Way Up for both men and women.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Parable for Returning to Yourself 24 March 2017
By Barbara Stark-Nemon - author Even in Darkness- a novel - Published on Amazon.com

Patti Clark’s This Way Up reads almost like a parable for anyone facing a life transition that includes letting go of an other-directed role. Clark’s particular gift is in presenting both spiritual and human guides in a way that accounts for any form of skepticism the reader might harbor. With straight-forward writing and a generosity that stays short of evangelism, Clark delivers a lovely gift of inspiration and comfort to her readers. Julia Cameron fans will feel right at home in This Way Up.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHEN WE EMBRACE OUR GUIDES 4 May 2016
By scott lubbock - Published on Amazon.com

Patti Clark has found a way to skillfully weave ancient wisdom with contemporary insight to produce a book that is informative, engaging and encouraging. I say 'encouraging' because while I have read the entire book, I have not 'practiced' the thoughtful path suggested in the exercises that follow the text. And, though one may be quick to characterize this as the story of one woman's deep discovery at a signification time of transition and transformation in her life, as an older man experiencing my own next major transitional phase, I felt very much included in the story and the rich exploration it invites.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many great tools 11 September 2016

I had such an ah ha moment after doing one of the exercises from This Way Up. In Chapter Five the author titled the chapter “…Heart-Centered Goal Setting” and has us take seven large pieces of paper and place seven headers on them – then do a free flow description of what you envision for your ideal life in these areas – for example; health, home, finances etc. Very enlightening!
