Product Description

The first time Jayson Reece saw Chloe Schaeffer, he knew she would be his forever. He promised her then that he would show her how to live rather than just letting life pass her by. Now, 9 years later, they’ve had the storybook romance, a picture perfect wedding, and two twin boys to complete the family they always wanted.

But something is missing…

With two rambunctious boys, Chloe decides to be a stay-at-home mom until the boys are old enough to go to school. So, with her dreams of being a social worker put on hold, she throws everything she has into being the perfect mother and wife.

Jayson has a very demanding career as an Emergency Room physician. He tries to balance out his workload and that of being a family man, but lately his job has come first. Is he beginning to lose focus on the things that are most important to him?

Will Chloe’s drive for perfection and the challenges of Jayson’s career drive them apart? Or will they realize that love creates the perfection she desires and the balance he needs to keep his family together?

There’s only one thing left to do. Jayson needs to renew his promise to Chloe and she needs to trust Jayson to get them back to where they belong.

A place where living and loving is required…those only wanting to exist need not apply.

This is Living by Melody Dawn is book 1.5 in The Livng Series and is a continuation on Chloe and Jaysons story from book 1, To Live Again.

Even though this is book 1.5 and I've not yet read book 1, at no point did I feel like I was missing out on part of the story. It had the complete opposite effect as there were just enough hints to know there is a history but not enough to make you feel excluded from it at all.

I enjoyed Melodys characters and writing style so much that I want to read Book 1 immediately to get to know Chloe and Jayson more.

I laughed, I cried, I was shocked. Pulls out all your emotions, such s great read, but have the tissues handy.

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story of true love lasting through it all! 7 February 2016
By Crystal Snyder - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
From a story book romance, to a perfect wedding, to a dream job and beautiful twin sons, Jayson and Chloe have the perfect life, and a love that can survive anything. Or do they? Jayson is working long hours to finish residency as an emergency room doctor and Chloe is left alone with their two-year-old twin sons... and her thoughts. When this life that most dream of starts to crumble around them, will their love and connection be strong enough to make it through?

This is Living is the follow-up novella to To Live Again, and book 1.5 in The Living Series. In this story, we catch up with Chloe and Jayson 9 years later. After reading and loving To Live Again I was so excited to find out that there was more to Chloe and Jayson’s story. Ms. Dawn has created in Chloe, Jayson, and the supporting characters like Connor and Madison (Jayson’s twin brother and Chloe’s best friend) and Phillip and Ava (Jayson’s parents), real people that you want to get to know better. They are not your typical romance novel billionaires with no struggles or issues, where everything they’ve ever wanted comes easily. They have to fight hard to get what they want and as a result, are stronger for it. Their lives are filled with happy times, love, loss, accusations, anger, but in the end, their sense of family is what will bring them the healing they need.

This novella is packed with everything you could ever want in a love story. There is happiness, sadness, laughter, anger, tears, despair for loss, and hope for the future. I definitely felt the full range of emotions while reading. There were times I laughed out loud and times I needed several tissues to get through. The story was not only emotion provoking, but thought provoking as well. It will have you thinking about what is most important in life and remind you that you need to make the most of every day because you never know when the things you treasure most will slip away.

I give This is Living a very emotional 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Epilogue on steroids!! 19 July 2016

I love epilogues where we get a quick glimpse at the future of your favorite characters. This is an epilogue on steroids! Nine years later we find Jayson and Chloe with twins of their own and Jayson nearly done with his Emergency Medicine residency. These two are still as beautiful together as they were in To Live Again. Even better! There is drama, make you spit tea through your nose comedy and heartache. Real fat tears on your face, heart truly hurting... Heartache. Only a truly talented writer can pull your heart out of your chest, stomp on it, throw it in the trash and set it on fire then return you to whole with a line, a smile, or a gesture. Be prepared for real life heartaches and tea snorting laughter.
We get to spend more time with our favorite BFF Madison and sexy as sin twin Connor as well. Also get more quality time with the best mother in law ever written-- Ava.
I CANNOT wait for Connor and Madison's story. I wish or hope there is a backstory on the in laws someday. I think there is a great love story there as well!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crystal Snyder, thank you for introducing me to this ... 26 February 2016

Crystal Snyder, thank you for introducing me to this promising, young writer.

"This is Living", is Melody's second published book, and I have to say she doesn't shy away from difficult or taboo subjects.

Jayson and Chloe's story may seem all too familiar a young married couple trying to make a go of things, working hard, building a family, a life together. When having dreams, career, and being able to support and protect your family is your goal in life. Family can and often does become last on the list of priorities. What makes this story different than the others; family means something to this couple, and they are willing to make the sacrifices to put family first.

Unfortunately, in today's society we see or hear about more women having miscarriages, and yet we never mention the repercussions that this event can have on the woman or their partner. I appreciated Melody Dawn bring this to the forefront in her story of surviving a loss such as this and giving the name of "Angle Baby."

You may think this is a sobbing fest. However, it's anything but sobbing, can't say you will not cry, it's emotional but, in the end, you may just find yourself smiling, I know I did! AJbookre-Marks

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional 8 February 2016

I do not think I had enough tissues.
This book takes you a journey, not just through heartbreak but through family, relationships, work, and how a family is to function. Sure we are all humans, and in this book… the humans have flaws.

Chloe and Jayson’s story continues with this follow-up from To Live Again.
Chloe, a stay at home mom, who has twins.. learning to cope while her husband works.
Jayson, a working husband, in residency working to better himself for his family.
Jayson is learning how to balance family, work and time for himself. Chloe is learning how to take things just the way they are. However, she is feeling alone, she hates to be alone.

During this book, I could relate on a lot of terms. I, too, never want to be alone, it is one of the most hardest things to have to deal with. It is amazing how our brains are geared, and it takes time to overcome those. You will learn as you read This Is Living, there is more to fears; there is heartbreak, self-trusting, the ability to love oneself while loving others. You will also see friendships and what it takes to be a friend, even with showing up and just telling them straight forward on what they need.

Man, I just loved this book. Just have a box of tissues handy, and have your best book friend in your messages so you can vent, you will need someone to listen.

First let me say that I love this story and these characters. It was heartfelt, poignant, and full of hope. I laughed, cried, and loved with Jayson and Chloe. At first, I kept thinking to myself that Chloe and Ava (Jayson's mom) were a little over-the-top with their craziness regarding Jayson's job and lack of communication. However, I just needed to think back to the early years with my husband's demanding job and late hours to remember that these same insecurities existed in my life. I would go through the ever-changing tide of emotions of fear, anger, and misery that he wasn't home in the middle of the night after he told me he was on his way. It only took one accusation and the resulting disbelief and hurt on his part for me to remember to whom I was married. Once I got past these initial emotions related to Chloe's reactions, I loved this book.

I didn't read the first book in the series, so I went into Jayson and Chloe's story blind. That being said, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. While the author didn't rehash their journey so far, she seamlessly brought pieces of it into their current lives. I loved watching them struggle through their imperfect marriage and realizations. I appreciated the understanding and growth that Jayson and Chloe showed during this difficult time. And I adored the love they were able to hang onto. Since saying much more than that would lead to spoilers, I'll stop here and leave you with this: Get out the tissues! You're going to need them.
