Wow this story is so different, Gavin and his mate Bobby and their bet makes for a very interesting story. Learning about Gavin's issues and how he is trying to deal with them captures your emotions and the humour makes you laugh out loud. Loved this book. Didn't want it to end.

Gavin is an author with a one-hit wonder. He’s in a funk, plagued by writer’s block and the sequel to his first book tanked. On the heels of a heartbreaking failed relationship, he struggled to write for a year and half. The writer’s block isn’t his only issue, he is still suffering from depression. He is struggling but is doing better. His grandmother has Alzheimer’s and is in a home and is the only relative Gavin cares about. Gavin’s a survivor of abuse and his childhood is the source of his psychological issues. Bobby his best friend from school and also a successful author, is worried about his mental state and is pulling all stops for Gavin to get back into the dating game. Offering money which would go a long way for Gavin, they make a pact. Gavin is to go on dates for 30 days and if he completes it, he wins. Gavin meets his dates through a dating app and his life starts to get interesting.

As I follow the author and am aware of the author’s history, it was clear that he was writing from personal experience and things that he really knows about. It makes this story so real and I can’t help but root for Gavin. I love the way his thoughts and internal struggle are conveyed in such a witty, funny, self-deprecating fashion. This book is written from the first person’s POV and that tends to be monotonous but there is absolutely no boring moment here. I am, in fact, looking forward to the next book in this series. BT Urruela’s writing style is refreshing and the dialogue is spontaneous. I want more.

I went into this book thinking it was going to be a run of the normal rom com full of laugh out loud moments . But I should have known better you made me laugh, you made me cry and you made me want to hug him. So many things in this books I could relate too. From his relationship with his grandma, the awkward dates, depression and suicidality! I felt I was living it with him. So beautifully written and raw at times.. Can't wait for the next one.
P.s I loved that you made him seem so normal and not some ripped, alpha type that is the rage in books. So much more than a dating romance book

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening, beautiful and emotional! 1 March 2017

I couldn't wait for this book to come out and I was NOT disappointed! This is a departure from other books that BT has written in some ways and in others it is much the same with deep introspection into the human condition and what makes people tick.Gavin is hurting so much emotionally and BT has a way of bringing all that emotion to the surface for all of us to see, all of us to feel. As you read, you see that yes, there is much of BT's own background, emotions, past in this character. The premise of the book, 30 dates in 30 days, promises to be an eye-opening experience for both Gavin but also for those of us who read this book. There are characters to love and some to absolutely abhor and what's better to get the readers to band together than a character who is sure to bring the reality of today's world into focus.I love all the "dates" so far because in the end, they are bringing a kind of clarity to Gavin that he is much in need of. I am definitely swiping right on this book!!

What I really liked about this book is that it gives a real look at what mental illness looks like. Sometimes, in books, it's made to look pretty and glossed over but in this it's raw and open. It's heartbreaking and tugs at the heartstrings. Working in this field, I see every day how it affects people and depression is something that should be talked about more often. This book gives that a voice and a platform. It's not always something we acknowledge or want to talk with someone about, but we need to. I loved the way the writer wrote this because even though there were some errors that may have been there, there wasn't any in the actual background content. I like when a book grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go until the very last sentence. If you want a good look at what depression, love and coming out on the other side looks like - buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dating Isn't Easy, But can be Adventurous 2 March 2017
By Christie L Marsh - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Dating is hard enough, we all know it. The dreaded first date is the worst, awkward and uncomfortable. Especially being an introvert, it's like standing in front of an audience and trying to talk about something you aren't comfortable with. Dating one person everyday for 30 days feels painful and just crazy and the concept made me laugh out loud. This read not only incorporated what it's like to date and what a dating site could be like, the author puts his own life experiences into it and brings his readers closer to who he is and what he lives through on a bigger plane. Gavin brought out so many feelings I have felt on first dates, life and so much more. I felt like I was Gavin at some points, I laughed and cried. His compassion was undeniable, his life's experiences brought him more then he thought he could handle. Having great friends, getting help and working through each day is all one can do. I thought this was a great read and the ending made me feel like I was watching a television series, leaves you wanting more, but you have to wait for the next week to see what will happen next. Loved it and look forward to the next install.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a journey through the 21st century swipe-dating jungle! 14 April 2017
By Maggie Jane Schuler - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
On the surface, Thirty Days is the tell all of Gavin, and his journey through the 21st century swipe-dating jungle. However, BT Urruela unfolds a beautiful exploration of Gavin, developing several themes which strike at the heart and soul of so many in modern day society. Gavin is challenged to get back out in the larger dating pool after suffering a heartbreaking split with his girlfriend. It isn't ‘just’ that easy for Gavin to jump back in, as he is plagued by demons which cripple him; his mental state is driving him into a place he doesn't want to be, yet he cannot control its power.

Urruela’s artistry in developing the prose around Gavin’s experience is truly a testament to the diverse talents he uses as a writer. He provides humor and banter but is still rooted in opening the discussion of mental darkness, developing coping mechanisms, and dissecting the depth of complexity associated with dealing with demons and rising above the darkness. Thirty Days is the first installment of the trilogy and well worth every word read.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST read! 3 March 2017
By Karen M. - Published on Amazon.com

I have been anxiously awaiting this book for awhile. I just finished reading it and may I say I absolutely loved it. The story felt real to me like i could relate to what was being told. I myself went through the online dating and couldn't help but laugh out loud at the dating experiences that Gavin had gone through and btw without giving anything away I loved the what i would call the "F" word speech . I also loved the interaction with Gavin and his grandmother and how he would do anything to help her go back to the days he remember her as I'm sure we all would do with our families. That cliffhanger though....even though i knew it was coming i thought to myself Nooooo I want more!! But overall I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a read that is could give you the feels and also make you laugh. Ugh I can't wait for Part 2!!
