Lady Angel Templeton is the youngest of four children and sister to a Marquess. She is a social butterfly looking only to flirt and have fun. Their is, of course, a duke on the scene who she has been hoping to interest. Then she is called to the reading of her maternal grandfather’s will along with her mother and three siblings. That is when they all get a shock. Apart from some bequests to their mother, the whole fortune is to be left equally among the four children. There is a catch. Each one of them has a task to complete within two months and if they fail that portion will go to a person that they know to be of bad character. It’s never explained what his relationship, if any, there is between him and their grandfather. Lady Angel finds that she is to go for two months as companion to an elderly lady. Why the lady never questioned that a flower of the nobility will be working as her companion is never explained. The lady in question is Mrs Jean Stone, a childless widow. She does, however, have a nephew who cares for her deeply. Reuben Hunt is the local MP and he is immediately suspicious of Angel when he meets her, especially as he has received a letter telling him that her family has financial problems. He concludes that Angel must be after his Aunt Jean’s money. There is of course another villain who comes onto the scene. The two have to get over their misunderstandings and Angel starts to realise that the ton isn’t everything. This is a nice read but doesn’t deserve 5 stars.
This book is the first book in a new series called, 'The Inheritance Clause' and what an exciting and very entertaining story and introducing some of the character that will feature in the series. This is Lady Angel Templeton story and what a very lovely and clever women she is. When her grandfather's will is read she finds out that she has to work for two months and get the approval of the layer to get her inheritance. The job sh takes is a companion to an elderly lady called Mrs Stone, who seems to be a very unmanageable and what many would have called 'a bit dotty'. Her nephew Reuben Hunter, who is a 'bit of a pain' with his strictness is not at all happy with Lady Angel and seems to think she should keep his aunt under control. I found this wonderful story was one of Samantha Holt's will be a favourite one for me and I know i will go back to read and re-read when the next instalment comes along. I recommend this story and this author and look forward to the next book and all the other books in this new series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
