About the Author
Carol Marinelli recently filled in a form asking for her job title. Thrilled to be able to put down her answer, she putwriter. Then it asked what Carol did for relaxation and she put down the truth - writing. The third question asked for her hobbies. Well, not wanting to look obsessed she crossed the fingers on her hand and answered swimming but, given that the chlorine in the pool does terrible things to her highlights I m sure you can guess the real answer.

Dr Dominic MacBride works in A&E at Paddington Children’s Hospital known as the Castle he has come down from Scotland recently after a very back break up that involved family he can be moody and with reason he has been hurt badly he of course has no intention of falling in love again, but meeting ambulance officer Victoria Christie well his life is about to change there is an instant pull between them.
Victoria Christie spends a lot of time bringing patients to The Castle and this is a very special place for her seeing as how she spent a lot of time there growing up, she was bought up by her single Doctor father and is a hard man no wonder she tends to be a loner but she says what she thinks comes across with no feeling but DR MacBride sees through that and seems to be able to push her buttons in more ways than one and when they have a steamy torrid meeting in a turret at the hospital there are consequences that upend her life.
I really did love this story Victoria and Dominic are perfect for each other but Victoria will not be pushed and Dominic needs to work out things with his family first and with the threat of closing the hospital added on as well this pushes them together more but their feelings for each other are hotting up and Victoria being stubborn adds so much to the story and this one will keep you turning the pages it is really a moving story and I did shed a few tears but was smiling big time at the end and I look forward to the others books in this series.
Dominic, a surgeon, and Victoria, an EMT, both love their jobs, and as such will do what they can for their patients, even if it means they're on different sides. However, when Victoria calls Dominic on his attitude, reminding him she's just doing her job as is he, Dominic realizes he's let his personal life impact his professional one. Victoria is surprised when Dominic apologizes.
Though the sexual tension between them is obvious, neither have felt the need to act on it until now. Dominic and Victoria agree it's a one time only occurrence as both have their own reasons for avoiding anything remotely similar to a relationship.
"It had been ages for Dominic, and he had wanted her for a very long time." - Dominic
Eight weeks later, Victoria is shocked to learn her explosive encounter with Dominic created a child. Informing the father will have to wait, as she knows, only by hearing in passing as he's treated her like a stranger since that night, that he's gone home, and she doesn't know if or when he's coming back.
Dominic returned earlier than planned from his trip, unable to see his family and act as if everything was okay. He couldn't stop thinking of asking Victoria on a date. Unfortunately, he didn't act on it as he feels he's nowhere near ready to attempt a relationship after the disastrous end to his last one. When Dominic inadvertently learns the news before Victoria has a chance to tell him, he's worried history is repeating itself. Not knowing what happened with his ex, Victoria can't help but be hurt by his cold approach to requesting a DNA test after the birth, then if it confirms the baby truly is his, they'll go from there. When Dominic explains his reaction, the response he receives isn't what he expected.
"She looked at him, right at him, but instead of a sympathetic response Victoria told Dominic a truth. ‘I’m not your ex.’ And then she ducked under his arm and was gone." - Victoria
Can these two work through their individual emotional baggage and learn to trust each other? Will Dominic make peace with his family and be able to move on with Victoria and their baby? Can Victoria, having experienced a childhood without her mother and having a disinterested father, trust that Dominic truly wants to be a part their baby's life? Can true love grow from this unique pairing and set of circumstances? Will Dominic and Victoria discover a love that can overcome everything standing in their way? Will they get a HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people, both in the medical field, discover a love, between them and for their baby, that has the power to heal their hearts.
On a purely personal note, and this is in no way a spoiler as we learn about it within the first ten minutes, I really wish Dom's long-term ex-girlfriend, Lorna, wasn't still a part of his life, and in the form of being his sister-in-law after marrying his younger brother, Jamie, of whom she cheated on Dom with, and having said brother's baby, the one Dom believed was his. I dislike that sort of connection to the past because now Victoria, once she starts seeing Dom and joins the family, will always have to see his ex because hey, they're related now by marriage, and know that Dom left her only because of her actions, not due to the fact that he fell out of love with her, though I'm sure that quickly followed the revelation. I understand the significance of her cheating and having another man's baby to Dominic's character, I just would've preferred it be with someone other than his brother.

London paramedic Victoria Chase loves her job and does it well. She could do without the criticism of the new A & E doc, but such is life! She does have to admit to appreciating his hotness though ... and that accent!

He knows he's been a bear and sets out to apologize to Victoria. One thing leads to another and they have a one-night fling. Imagine their surprise when they find out they have a baby on the way! Due to some of that past betrayal, it makes for an awkward situation that they have to find a way to work through.
