Enjoyable story, although the characters were a little one dimensional. I read most of Madelaine Wickham's books a few years ago and am enjoying them again. A good light read.

Milly, young and impetuous, agrees to marry a gay man so he can stay in the country to be with his partner. Fast forward 10 years and Milly is engaged to the love of her life and the wedding is just days away. If you can suspend belief that Milly would never have followed up on getting a divorce or simply have told her fiancé when he proposed, then this is a fun, humorous story about people who have all gotten carried away with a big society wedding. I found the gay / religious storyline very moving, I revelled in the snobby mother of the bride, and I liked most of the characters a lot. 🎧 Katherine Kellgren is always a fantastic narrator, here she was able to build up such an emotional head of steam that she almost shouts the lines of the angry characters. She perfectly matches the comedic, snobby, or touching scenes.

An easy read if slightly unbelieveable

I love books by Sophie Kinsella so I was quite excited when I realised that she also had books under her name Madeleine Wickham.
It starts off with easy going, fun loving Milly who meets a young gay couple. One of them men is American and needs to stay in the country so despite only knowing them for a few days, she agrees to marry him. Skip forward and Milly is about to get married - without actually getting divorced from her American husband. Milly panics and she tries to hunt down her husband with her wedding only days away.
The story is a nice enough story and I did enjoy the ending. My favourite part of the story was actually not the part about the main characters but small parts involving the gay couple and Milly's sister. My problem with this story is that I found the idea that someone would just assume that getting married again without previously getting divorced was okay, was just a bit unrealistic. Milly (the main character) was not a character I liked that much because I just found her irresponsible and couldn't get over her excuse about "forgetting" she was already married. I didn't like that she put on a completely fake persona for her fiancé because I felt that if she felt the need to do this then they shouldn't be getting married to him anyway. There are a few unexpected parts which was done well and overall it was okay though I probably won't re-read it, which for me, is unusual.

Good story

Enjoyed getting to know Molly, Simon and the other characters in the story. Simon comes from a wealthy background and is an only son. His mother had passed away years ago, but his relationship with his father was tense. The wedding is called off but the very quickly it all happens. What I did not like was the use of curse words jury still out as to whether or not I will read any more of this author's books.

An good read with interesting themes.
But not as captivating as some of the authors books.
Quite heavy subject matter in places and a very negative view of the Church.

Very predictable, badly written and edited. I feel like the author has ran out of ideas as The storyline is exactly the same as other books from this author
