The Thunder and the Flame by Alexander Fullerton
The retelling of the poem 'Revenge ' by Alfred Lord Tennyson in story form. It was so hard going to read I wonder why the author bothered? I persevered to the end and wondered why I bothered!

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

A perfect blend of fact & fiction.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 January 2016Verified Purchase
Bought as a replacement for an original copy which has fallen to pieces having been read many, many times. I can honestly say that I read many historical books, fact & fiction, and this one blends the two splendidly. Written as a novel, but thoroughly researched, so as to provide a story that is as factually correct as it is possible to be after some four hundred years.
The characters are all real, Grenville in particular, a man I feel I have met, & was not very fond of. You find yourself caring who actually survives, or not.
Life aboard an Elizabethan ship of war is described in such a way as to make the tales of the Armada not quite as glorious as the films portray.
Certainly among the best of the seaboard warfare genre.

Great interpretation of a historic battle

Typical Fullerton...well described without overly flowering the script. As good at these as the novels. I'm a fan, you haven't guessed.
