After having used the book regularly for around 3 months I can really see a shift in my perspective on the world. I feel a lot more grateful for the little things and generally more optimistic about life.
While the book feels high-quality, it lost a star due to the price.
I think it's fair to pay the full price the first time around, but it's just too expensive to warrant buying more. The value you get from the book far outweighs the cost, but... my logical brain still thinks it's expensive for a book where all the pages are 90% the same...
Maybe a discount for repeat buyers...
It changed my perspective on what's truly important. Every single morning when I wake up, I reflect and note down how lucky I am, simply to be alive! To be able to see, hear, walk, talk and express my feeling to the ones who surround me or are a phone call away. When you put things into perspective, you realize that all those pressing deadlines at work, small family misunderstandings and the fact that you cannot afford that new shiny BMW are simply first world problems.
I started calling my parents on a daily basis, simply to tell them that I love them, and remind them how grateful I am for the way they raised me. I became that inspirational and supportive manager I always wanted to have. Lastly but not least important, I started valuing every minute spent with my wife and the cute things we do for each other.
I love this journal so much, that I bought a copy for all my family members and all my direct reports. Before handing it to them, I played the youtube video that explains how this journal works, just to get them pumped up and remind them how beautiful this life is, if we remove the noise and focuse on the positive things.
I agree with the people who say that this book is a bit overpriced for a regular journal, however the value you get from the book far outweighs the cost! It's a psychological masterpiece and the creators should be rewarded for making this world a better place to live in.
The pages are thin but sturdy enough to withstand a fully loaded highlighter with no bleed through and minimal ghosting. A ballpoint is likely the best to use for the journal part.
Guestimating there's around 6 months of pages here.
Starts with simple, brief how to use pages and the science behind the prompts/layout. It's a page a day deal.
Now, I'm not someone who has trouble writing; I already keep morning pages, a thanks & highlights doc for each month and I'll even scribble on scrap paper and be brutally honest when I've got something to work through. AND after reading Art Before Breakfast, I'll be changing the way i journal in 2020 - already in training. But I want everything to be more or less in one place, so...
I got this after seeing Mel Robbins' talk show pilot on her YouTube then signing up for her newsletter then considering her 5 second journal, only i did the smart thing and went over to Amazon US to check out the plentiful reviews there, decided against getting it (her's only lasts 2 months apparently) but stumbled onto this instead.
Intrigued, did a little more digging and found this on the marketplace here for £18.99 from the creators, Intelligent Change, themselves (bizarrely listed as used-like new only it really is new and I almost missed it bc i don't rly buy pre-owned books).
Anyways, if you have trouble finding it on this Amazon, I'd recommend buying from Amazon.com for a fair price even with shipping to the UK. Or just waiting for this Amazon to get it back in stock.
Do I recommend? I'll say a tentative YES for now, since I only just got it, but will add updates every month or so.
Tbh, I'm likely to see this one through and carry over anything that works from this into a journal/sketchbook of choice (like my fave dotted Rhodia notebooks readily available here on Amazon).
Excited to begin tomorrow - and it only takes 5 minutes...
★ONE MONTH UPDATE★
One month update: I don't think this is for me, it feels futile but probably because realize now I'm not the target audience, who must be those who don't journal at all or find it challenging.
Me, I've been writing/journaling ever since I can remember and for a while now, have been doing the gratitude thing and even the highlights of the day thing and it's challenging for me to imagine how anyone can live without journaling!
Even the daily affirmation thing; my life has been so messed up that I need and have written an entire script - I call it a positive self talk (PST) script, a list of affirmations by me, for me and it's working wonders.
So yeah, stopping this now. I *am taking away the last question of the day, only I've changed it to 'from now on I choose to' which feels more proactive and less tinged with regret.
Conclusion: It's more for ppl who don't already journal at all or in this way, so if that's you, maybe give it a shot bc judging by reviews on both US & UK Amazons, it does wonders for some.
Mine, am going to cut the pages I've written on out and give it to a charity shop bc it's still usable for 5 more months, so someone still might get value from it.
Think 2 journals a year.
As someone who is Type A and wants to journal but keeps forgetting, this is a great visual prompt and it's short enough that I don't want to avoid it when I go to sleep.
I put mine on the night stand and do it first thing and last thing, and I find it's great for reflection, especially me getting clarity over how I can improve on each day.
Best journal I have had so far.
Beautiful quotes and structure inside it. Can also make a perfect birthday present.
I would definitely recommend it.
It is such a perfect way to start a new useful habit and be happier.
