Pain isn't new to me.

I've been to hell only to find it never really leaves when you get back. It haunts me through nightmares, unrequited love, lies, broken hearts, and now death.

A monster almost took my life.
My best friend carries half my soul a world away.
My boyfriend broke my heart but refuses to let me go.
And my father is dead.

I don't believe in fate and I don't believe in happily-ever-afters, but for some reason, I still hope.

Live, even with a tainted spirit.
Long for my other half to come back to me.
Risk another broken heart, just to feel loved again.
And refuse to let another horror break me.

In the face of my most recent tragedy, I have to decide whether forgiveness is something I can give. But even if that's an option, can I be forgiven?

~this review may contain minor spoilers~

He is the last person I need to be talking to, and the second person I've wanted to talk to since this happened. I know exactly who is standing before me, and I know without a doubt that if I let him back in, I will be hurt and betrayed all over again.

Josie Sommers has been through more than her fair share of heartache over the past several years, and while she has gotten through it, she has been left with some deep rooted scars. In the wake of her most recent tragedy, the passing of her Daddy, she is confronted by more pain from her past in the form of ex-boyfriend Blake. He betrayed her like no other and he is the last person she wants to see, but he is determined to get Josie to give him a second chance, an opportunity to make things right and possibly fall in love with him again. Josie is lonely, depressed, and broken; what she really wants is the comfort of her life-long best friend and the man she fell in love with long ago, but Seth abandoned her and is half way across the country living his life without her, so she decides to maybe give Blake a chance. She doesn't know if she'll ever be able to forgive him, but whats more is, she doesn't know if he will ever be able to forgive her once he finds out what she has been hiding from him. Relationships cannot be built on lies, but what happens when the truth may be more than they can handle; is forgiveness really possible?

Seth had saved me. He'd saved me from Michael. He'd saved me from my fear of intimacy. He'd saved me from everything. Seth is more than half my soul. Without him, I'm barely living.

To put it simply I loved it. Thanks to Victoria for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I connected with Josie on a level that I often do not have the chance to experience with other characters in books- and I thank you for that. The topics explored in this book are explored with sensitivity. I applaud you for exploring topics people often avoid speaking about as they can evoke strong feelings.
Can I also just say I am totally torn between team Seth, and team Blake. Honestly, I have just decided that I will have both :P
I have written a more in depth review of this book on my blog, please feel free to read and comment.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is more than a pinky swear 5 January 2014

I love when a novel exceeds my expectations! I kind of went into That's A Promise blind. We received an ARC from the Author, and we didn't go to Amazon or Goodreads to see what it was about. Anytime you receive an ARC you are always nervous that you might not like the book...thank goodness that was not the case in That's A Promise.

Josie had me jumping through hoops trying to understand what the hell she was going to do next. She goes off to college and meets Blake and from the start they are almost inseparable. But she also has a best friend Seth, who she has crossed the friendship line with on more than one occasion. And you think the problem is going to be her picking between Blake and Seth. If only things were that simple...she has no clue that Seth even likes her on that level, which of course makes you feel bad for Seth. But I loved Blake so I couldn't stay in my feelings about Seth for too long.

I love books that are not your normal typical read. This book has a great supporting cast of friends and family. Josie was raised by her two dads, Will and Tony, and the love expressed from their relationship was powerful. Sharing their relationship and their love had to be a favorite for me throughout the book. Her best friend Brooke ROCKED, she was total opposite Josie with her crazy ideas and free spirit.

My "Oh No She Didn't" Moment...when Josie and Seth hook up and she lets him take pictures of them. The way Victoria Klahr displays this private yet oh so erotic moment is indescribable. 'Click. He brought one of my breasts into his mouth and sucked on my hard nipple. His tongue always knew how to make my body feel good. Click. I moved my hands into his shaggy sandy blonde hair, and arched my back, needing more of him. Click. Seth aligned his chest with mine and went back to assault my neck as I moved my hands to rub his shoulders and arms. Click.' You have to read this moment yourself...this small insert of it does not do it justice.

When the cat is out the bag...I kind of thought I knew where Victoria Klahr was going...but then I said she can't be that devious she wouldn't do that...but then when it dropped it was like someone sucked all the air out of the room. I was hurting for them both, but I was crying for Blake. And you cheer him on as he fights to win her back. Then she is decides to release her secret...and the whole time I am saying don't do it Josie, don't you do it...and then she drops it and I am like Whhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! LOL!

Sorry it's a Cliffhanger...well not really but kind of...Josie has become estranged with Seth after their last encounter and the book ends with a contact from Seth. It left thinking Oh Lawd here we go again with this. I am dying to read the next book in this series and I hope Victoria Klahr does not leave us hanging too long.

Sorry I couldn't give you a lot of insight , but I didn't want to ruin the review with spoilers! But 1-click the book you will not be disappointed - I promise!

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, but development was wavering 12 October 2014
By Crystal Peik - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Anyone who knows me, knows that I rarely ever give a book less than a 4 star review. In fact, this is my first three star review.

Let me start by saying, the storyline was incredible. I know that seems a shock given the star rating, but it's true. There were so many twists and turns, and while my original hypothesis at 40% was correct, it doesn't give the opinion any less credence. If anything, it serves to show how messed up my mind can actually be. These are things you don't think can happen in real life, or even in books. Josie has so much reason to be dark and twisty, but she manages not to be. Blake has issues of his own, but nothing that he doesn't thrive despite. And Seth...I'm not even sure what to say about Seth. He's the best friend love interest, and I am a sucker for those. He was no different for me. I wanted to root for him even though Josie didn't seem to want to accept her feelings for him anywhere but her mind.

And this is where the rating finds it's truth. Josie, despite having reason for a darker nature, really doesn't have more than a selfish nature. I found myself comparing her character to Keira from the Thoughtless series, remembering how so many people found her indecisiveness annoying. Josie really was incredibly annoying from the start. She was in love with Seth in one paragraph, and two paragraphs later she was madly in love with Blake. Although, her internal monologue told us all that she was still in love with Seth, but was settling for loving Blake because he loved her back and she believed Seth would never see her as more than his best friend. This is how the majority of the story went for them. It's the way of love triangles at their core, but Josie's character took it too extremes.

Then there was the sex. I never thought I would say it, but this book could have used LESS sex. It's was like dirty Morse code. Plot revelation. Sex. Reaction to plot revelation. Sex. Another revelation. Sex. I just think it was too overpowering for the raw excellence of the story arc. And it made Josie seem very vapid, to be honest. It was like there was nothing to the girl without the horny.

Despite this scathing review, I do find myself excited for the next story. With Seth's obvious return, and where things left off with Blake and Josie, I'm curious to see how Josie grows in herself... and I hope she does. I also hope that she learns that her heart doesn't live in her vagina.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glad it was free 18 February 2014

This book could have been really good. The synopsis sounded good and it has tons of 4 and 5 star reviews. I was optimistic.... then I was disappointed. I hate spoilers so I am not going to give anything away but this story was so completely unbelievable. The on again off again stuff was so tiring. Blake isn't really even that likeable and Josie was annoying for most of the book. Seth was about the only person I really like in the whole thing... but don't get me started on that. There is a cliffhanger but by the time I got to the end of the book (which I had to force myself to do) I was just ready for it to be over and I'm not sure I really care what happens in the second one. I am really baffled by the number of 4 and 5 star reviews this book was given. It was just not that good. I am glad I didn't pay for it and I MIGHT read (*skim) the second one if it is free too.

5.0 out of 5 stars That's a Promise was such a great book! Theirs not much I can say without ... 22 October 2014

That's a Promise was such a great book!

Theirs not much I can say without ruining it for anyone who hasn't read it. I feel like the tiniest little detail could give away a huge part of the story.

That's a Promise is the story pain and betrayal.

Josie is a girl who has been through a lot. Because of traumatic experiences she doesn't like to be touched by anyone. Josie didn't want to let her past control her, so she decides to finish off college away, with her best friend since forever, Seth.

Blake is delish. He has the look of the bad southern boy, but he's as sweet as he is sexy. It doesn't take long before they are both completely head over heels for each other.

Blake discovers that him and Josie have a lot more in common than they thought. But what he found out is something that could ruin them forever.

Victoria's writing held me captive from page one. That's a promise was filled with heartache, love, lies, and betrayal. Their are so many aspects to this story. Once you find out what you thought would be the OMG factor to the story, you get hit with an even bigger WTF moment.

That's a Promise leaves you wanting so much more! It was a well deserved 5 stars!

I cant wait to read the next book in the series, to see what happens next.

If you love a good story with a lot of twists, turns, and a bunch of sexiness; That's a Promise is the book for you.

Victoria, you created a forever fan in me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Emotional Read. 3 November 2014
By Diana Chronister - Published on

From the very beginning I was hooked, and even after I finished I'm still feeling it. It's a wonderful emotional roller coaster. There are twists and turns at every corner.

Josie is a young woman that's experienced more than the average person. She has experienced loss, betrayal, love, hate, and demons. It's all shaped her into the woman she is today. An elementary school teacher. Who loves 2 men.

Seth is her tatted up sexy bad boy best friend. He has a play boy side, but when it comes to Josie he is always all in. He'd do anything for her, and for that I love him dearly.

Then you have Blake, who while being cute, fun, sweet, and all the wonderful characteristics in a guy he is hiding a secret. A secret in which tears him and Josie apart.

I had a love hate relationship with Josie.

That's a Promise is a wonderful read. I highly recommend. So #1click away. :)
