Product Description

What really happened at the villa?
In stunning Positano, Italy ex-journalist Harriet (Harri) Taylor discovers love… death… and family secrets.
“All my life, I waited for my mother’s affection. Now I must compete with a dead woman.”
When Harri learns her mother once lived in Italy, a secret she has kept for thirty years, Harriet travels to Positano to determine if remains known only has the Positano Skeleton belong to her mother’s long lost friend. Yet how can she probe old secrets when she doesn’t speak the language? And who can she trust when the truth is buried in the past and no one wants to talk to a foreigner about the skeleton or the past?
In the dark chasm of Italy’s past, some things are best left buried.
A gripping psychological suspense that proves... A mother's silence can be deadly

Rowena Holloway is a master of hook chapter endings. The skeleton of Positano, found in a cave, is what starts Harriet’s journey, but is just one of many threads that tangle together and eventually tie in a satisfying ending. There were plenty of surprises and a very clever twist at the end.
The European element gave the story an exotic feel, imbued with rich culture, and immersed in the Italian language, which was skilfully wrought so as not to detract from the story. The love interest, Antonio, was certainly entertaining, but in the face of so many secrets, Harriet is left believing the worst of everyone.
It seems that everyone is trying to manipulate Harriet for their own purposes, and it’s nice to see her inner strength grow during the story. I particularly identified with the relationship between mother and daughter, and the final scene brought me to tears.
