Product Description

A woman with no roots…

Naomi fled the cult-like nightmare of her childhood and learned to rely on one person—herself. Her resourcefulness keeps her alive during a catastrophe in the mountains, but it’s no help at all when it comes to Chaska Belcourt, the sexy EMT who saves her life. Raised to feel shame about her body and sex, she is putty in Chaska’s hands as he strips away her armor, exposing the vulnerable woman beneath, awakening desires in her that she’d been taught to ignore.

A kiss that changes everything…

Chaska Belcourt grew up on the reservation, the son of a hereditary Sun Dance chief. He left all of that behind for a new life in Colorado as an engineer with an aerospace firm and a member of the elite Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. He doesn’t share his sister’s belief that fate led him to find Naomi. But from the first moment their lips touch, he can’t get enough of her.

A love that transforms…

As the passion between them turns into something more, Chaska is forced to admit that his sister is right. There’s no other way to explain the depth of his feelings for Naomi—or the fact that he and his people might hold the key to unraveling the mysteries of her past. But she will have to learn to trust again before the two of them can find the answers she needs—and claim this once-in-a-lifetime love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! 2 July 2017

Tempting Fate is the latest wonderful, engaging addition to my collection of Pamela Clare's books. I have enjoyed every single one of this author's books. This latest book is my very favorite in this series. I loved Chaska and Naomi together. The gentleness, caring, and passion Chaska had for Naomi was wonderful. He brought out the real Naomi, and made me realize that we all need a Chaska. Naomi is a courageous woman, who was dealt a crappy hand at birth but got the life she so deserved in the end. I am truly fascinated by all the Native American traditions so eloquently explained throughout the story, and it made for a nice change in contemporary romance. As a bonus we also got a small glimpse of some favorite characters from previous books which is always fun.
I highly recommend this book as Pamela Clare does not only excel at weaving a story which is hard to put down with wonderful characters you feel like you know and love, her research and knowledge of topics specific to each story is unparalleled. Whether it is Native American traditions, drug trafficking, female prisoner abuse, Pamela opens your eyes to the details of realities most of us are not familiar with. Excellent story, can't wait for the next one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot and Sweet! Welcome back to Colorado High Country! 1 July 2017

Book 4 of the series does not disappoint! We returned back to Scarlet Springs, a quirky town in Colorado, where everyone is treated like family. I grew to fall in love with the town and characters in the first three books and this one obviously continues that tradition!

The best way to describe this book is a beautifully poignant Love Story, wrapped around the culture of a proud nation and rising from a heartbroken childhood! This book has everything you want from a novel. You have moments of laughter, sadness, anger, fear, righteous indignation, and of course that warmth that you want to find as you are pulled into the story as if you were there.

Chaska is a heck of a hero! Proud, kind, warrior in the Lakota sense, warrior in the Webster's Dictionary sense, and of course hot as hell! Naomi, could have come off as a broken woman from all her tragedy, but she is fierce, sassy, and strong. She's a perfect complement to her hero and, it's nice to see a story where the hero is smart enough to see it early on!

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read. 6 July 2017

I loved this book on many different levels. To revisit Scarlet Springs a place I'd love to visit and experience the tight knit community (I know it's not real) that truly has a heart for their neighbor and visitor, it will never get old for me. (one could only hope that this could someday become a reality in our own world). I loved Chaska , his perception in how to persue Naomi, his tenderness and putting her above his own wants, sharing his heritage, makes him a hunk, let alone the cover depicting him. My heart broke for Naomi for now she was raised but I cheered her on at what a strong woman she had become on her own, what she went through, and the decisions she needs to make that is before her. Ms. Clare wove her knowledge of the Lakota nation into the story giving me new knowledge and an appreciation for the traditions they hold sacred. It was great to get a glimpse of one of our beloved I-Team guys (you'll have to read the book to see which one) and of course there is Ms. Clare's humor, which I do enjoy. And in the words of another reviewer "got milk?" Another must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, Give it a try!! 6 July 2017

This is the 4th book in Pamela Clare's Colorado High Country Series. The series is a different from her I-Team Series, as this is a Contemporary Romance. The series revolves around a Team of men and women who volunteer for a mountain rescue group. This particular one is about a man named Chaska. And a woman he rescues.. Naomi. Chaska is a member of the Lakota Nation. While this is part of the story it is not the focus. BUT many of their ideals and customs are mentioned... and I totally fell in love.... Not just with Chaska, with his ideals and customs... but with the town!! Scarlet Springs is the small town that everyone wants to live in...full of loving caring people, willing to do whats right... taking that extra bit of time to help. Naomi learns much in this book, about trust, relationships and community. The whole book was a wonderful romantic story... nothing was forced or rushed, it just felt right. The romantic scenes were sensual and believable ... I had a wonderful warm cozy feeling readying this story... Like visiting with some friends... and getting a nice warm hug. Great READ!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I did not want this book to end! 8 July 2017

In a short time these characters became real people to whom I could relate. I too became engrossed in the history of the Native peoples when I spent just two weeks exploring South Dakota and Wyoming. I delved into art, poetry, BLM and war history (ugly), and the remnants of Native traditions. I did not, however, get to know the living, breathing people of the Lakota or other nations. There still lies a great chasm between worlds. I can't believe what little truth of the remaining Native nations is part of modern American history. The book's references to my home state of Colorado were evoking of my youth in the Rockies and made me smile. Ms. Clare it was one of your finest books and your Author's Note explains your authenticity and respectful weaving of fact and romantic fiction. Mitakuye Oyasin.
