It's a short book - I personally love that he calls it a pamphlet. No misunderstanding that this isn't some huge work full of information. But Iden does break everything down into simple ideas to easily explain novel writing and getting you started. Early on he talks about making an outline. He lists pros and cons of both outlining and not outlining. Then points out that writing is creative and flexible enough that you can honestly do both. It's a great start to writing, he doesn't give a lot of BS that people can phone it in. This is for people serious about writing. He also includes other resources so you can continue your exploration. Start here and take flight!

It's like my recent trip to an orchid farm. The owner made no suggestions as to what I might purchase, but once I had made my choice, he taught me the hints which, if I followed them, would mean, a year from now, that I was a satisfied customer with living orchids. Matt Iden has done this for the budding novelist. Here are but the basics which, if put into practice, might - just might - turn the budding novelist into a bloomin' author!

I chose this rating because it was worth it. Such a short book yet full of info for the newest and some for those already writing, almost like an outline filled out. I liked its simplicity because it covered every question I asked.
I think this would be great for those that are wondering about writing and for those who have decided and have questions.
