3.0 out of 5 stars Love the Hero 3 May 2014
By Your Average Reviewer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is a hard one to review. Let me start by explaining what possessed me to purchase this book (just to show that marketing really does work!). It was featured on one of the blogs I subscribe to, and the cover and synopsis encouraged me to download the sample from Amazon. The sample was so intriguing, I purchased the book. Exactly like it was supposed to work...

Overall, it was an enjoyable, quick, easy read with a great start, a heart-thumping climax, and a sweet ending. The hero was unrelentingly adorable. It was fascinating to read about a culture different from my own. It was the stuff in between that caused me to give it a 3 star rating, as opposed to higher.

Partially, this could be due to the fact that I do not make it a habit to read NA. It was just as I feared: overburdened with the same emotional angst, page after page, and I didn't buy it right from the beginning. Within the first couple of chapters I was annoyed with the heroine. "Just get over yourself already," drifted through my head several times. The hero was so endearing that I kept reading because I wanted him to find HIS happily ever after, even if it was with the heroine.

Slight spoiler alert here: the heroine left her first love for a guy she met in college. The new guy breaks up with her and she finds herself back home, facing her first love, which leads to all sorts of emotional and physical angst. I enjoyed the byplay between she and her first love. I particularly liked him. But her angst just didn't work for me. I get that she was broken hearted over her college love breaking up with her. What I didn't get was why she even left the first love in the first place. Maybe, if that had been explained better - or at all, really - I would have enjoyed the book more.

Final consensus? I wouldn't recommend not reading it. Just be prepared to fall in love with the hero and be annoyed by the heroine.

5.0 out of 5 stars a breathtaking story of being pursued and caught by a love so boundless and intense that all we can think of is forever 17 April 2015

Taming Romeo is a breathtaking story of being pursued and caught by a love so boundless and intense that all we can think of is forever. When a love so pure and right envelopes and permeates itself so thoroughly and gently throughout your heart, it cannot be easily stopped or pushed aside. Throwing aside such a precious gift is unthinkable and beyond cruel. Unfortunately, in life nothing is cut and dry when it comes to love and life. Sometimes we are convinced that love will only serve to hold us back from our dreams when in reality they only help to fuel and enhance your deepest dreams. If only, we could really understand that and not allow others to convince us to settle for leaving our heart on the side of the road. Living life without your heart completely removes the reason for life itself. Who would want to live like that?

Evie is a girl with a dream of becoming a doctor. The only problem is that while her dreams pull her away from home, the boy who has stolen her heart is at home. She is completely torn by this, and ultimately she is convinced that her dreams are more important then what her heart wants. After all she can find love anywhere, right? Her heart tries to tell her that she is wrong, but to prove that she knows best, she finds a love at college that becomes only a shadow of what she desperately longs for. Romeo doesn’t understand why the girl he intended to marry left him standing with his heart in his hands. He thought he knew where she stood, but obviously he’s missing some important piece of information. When she comes home for a short break, he doesn’t intend to waste any time in showing her what all she has missed out on. He wants to ingrain himself so deeply into her heart that she can’t walk away this time. With meddling families and jealous siblings, these two have their work cut out for them. Will Evie follow her heart this time, or will she forever lose the best thing in her life?

Evie attempted to make her dreams come true at the ultimate expense of her heart which only proved to her that she was making a huge mistake in the end. Everything came crashing down around her because you can’t live your life devoid of your heart. You ignore it at your own demise. Her character really tugged at my heart because she learned the hard way that you can’t walk away from the incredible love that she and Romeo carefully built and nurtured. My heart broke for Romeo since he was left completely in the dark without an excuse or any word from Evie for 5 years. I admire him for not hating her when she came back, but instead he was fiercely determined to prove to Evie that he still loved her and she had always been in his heart even she shut him out of her life. He was relentless in loving her and proving to her that she deserved to be loved so completely and perfectly even after she broke his heart. They belonged together, and he did everything he could to show her that she needed to choose him this time.

Rachelle Ayala has created this beautifully dysfunctional Sanchez family who you love and yet want to smack them from time to time. They are a fun yet realistic family who in the end loves each other in spite of their faults and mistakes. While they might not go about things the right way, in the end they find the love, forgiveness, and courage they need to make the right decisions. We all get frustrated with those in our family, but deep in our heart, we love each other unconditionally. This is what I love to see each time I come back to this incredible group of people who have touched my heart one person at a time. I very much look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smokin Hot!!!!, 3 October 2016

This book had me laughing at different points in the book. The chemistry between Evie and Romeo is smokin hot and needs its own zip code. This book is also very sweet because it shows family taking care of family and having each others back. I highly recommend reading this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yum 6 March 2017

The ending wasn't as intense as I would have expected.
That's my only complaint. I want to roll around in a vat of Romeo so I may not be very unbiased right now.
3.0 out of 5 stars A bit too much of jumping to conclusions, but satisfying HEA 13 April 2014

Cute story. Got a little tired of Evie jumping to conclusions about Romeo. Besides the fact that she left him without a word when they were still in high school, he gave no indications he really was planning to exact revenge. But ultimately, it was a HEA, and I like that Romeo let Evie be just Evie for a while before creating the HEA. There was some humor which was cute. Don't read this if you're hungry because it revolves a lot around the Filipino diet which is NOT low cal, lol, but it all sounds good!
