Product Description

This is a book for dog trainers, other dog professionals, and dog owners. Intended to educate and entertain, it covers the many aspects of living with, training, and understanding dogs. It is philosophical in voice and versatile as a resource.

This book is part chronicle, part laughable musings, and part practical edification about dog training and canine behavior. It will explore the intersections of experience and spirit, training mechanics and mindfulness.

It includes:
•The theory of positive training
•The alpha theory
•How dogs learn
•Basic principles of dog training

And of course...
•Sit
•Stay
•Down
•Recall
•Leash walking and more

This book shows you how to employ gentle, positive training methods. Learn to take training from reactive to proactive by setting dogs up for success and rewarding them for it. The goal is not to simply control the behavior, but to change it for the better. Effective training is a two-way street of open communication. Understanding how dogs communicate and learn will alleviate frustration and confusion on both ends of the leash. Learn how to establish strong, yet benevolent leadership for a happier, more peaceful relationship for you and your dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE 23 July 2014

This is a must have! I downloaded the book as an adjunct to the training we are receiving personally from Pat (we are so blessed) and I love it as much as we love her. I am about in 1/4 of the book (but have jumped around and read other parts) I love the way it is written. She loves dogs the same way we love our little boy. She offers very clear and straight forward technical solutions and techniques, and shares the knowledge and love of dogs she has gained over the years. Get it now and you will enjoy, smile and learn.

"Taking the Lead without Jerking the Leash: The Art of Mindful Dog Training", is a refreshing look at the art of dog training. Pat Blocker shares her years of experience using humor and storytelling to teach us the skills needed to teach our dogs. Learning how dogs "talk" to us through body language, sets up a foundation for both human and dog to have a good training relationship.

Learning so much from this book, it helps put a lot of behaviors or training techniques in a new light. Pat has a way of explaining things in a logical but fun and also gentle way. This book is a must for all dog owners, no matter if you are a first time dog guardian or you've already cared for many dogs over the years. This is one book that will stay in my library always.
