This was an interesting take on being kidnapped with a few surprises along the way. Elise's life may seem dull but is it?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Quick Read I Really Enjoyed 22 April 2017
By Renee - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Elise has come to the conclusion that a dull lonely life was all she would ever have until a routine shopping trip turns into a deadly affair. Taken by two men. One a brute and the other an enigma. Blindfolded and held captive, Elise's mundane existence just got a whole lot more interesting. Suddenly facing the unknown, and held prisoner by a man with rough hands and a gentle voice. Elise is fighting against the growing desire for her captor. Will Elise make it out alive and with her heart intact?

I went into this book fully expecting it to be dark and filled with stockholm syndrome. What I got was a fun to read book that flew by and had the perfect ending. Elise is so alone. Like all alone in the world. She has absolutely no one. I can't even imagine how it would feel to be all alone in the world. When she is kidnapped she has the complete opposite reaction to what I think I would have. While scared she soon connected with the nicer of the two captors and looked at it all as an adventure. However the other captor was not so nice. Like down right evil actually so she had to keep on her toes around that one. Her names for these guys are hilarious and I laughed quiet a few times in this book. I also felt for Elise. Bless that girls heart. No one should be that alone and lonely in the world so to say I was rooting for her to have a happily ever after is an understatement.

J.C. Valentine took what could have been a super dark book and made it more. I liked it. I enjoyed reading it and I was sad to see it end. However after a couple of heart failures I love love loved the ending so it's certainly not all fun and games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trying to survive 18 April 2017

Wow, what a great story. I am always interested what J.C. Valentine is going to bring out when I see a new book released. This book was truly a good story.

How many times have we got used to the same old same old of every day life? How many times have we needed a change? Well that is were Elise was at in her life. It had been a long time since she had been with a man. He days were looking forward to TV dinners or going to the grocery store. Yeah, she truly wanted some excitement in her life and that is what Elise was soon to get.

I can not imagine what is was like to be coming out of the grocery store and find yourself kidnapped. The fear that must of been gripped Elise. She had to have a thousand questions go through her mind. I mean why would someone want to kidnap her.

She truly was a woman that tried to think it through. I found it funny that she gave her kidnappers nicknames. She called one Manhandler (which was Mr. Sexy himself) and the other she called Driver (which was Mr Loose Canon). Sorry want to know their real names, well then I guess you will have to read the book.

I found these kidnappers totally different. One truly cared what happen to Elise where the other was looking forward to putting a bullet in her head. They were as different as day and dark.

Ellie will have to keep her wits about her if she wants to stay alive. Things will get hot and heavy between her and one of the kidnappers and things will become more dangerous for her.

This was a great story and there is also a few surprises along the way. I am glad I got a chance to read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big fan of JC Valentine! 18 April 2017
By Amy Stephens - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I'm a big fan of JC Valentine so I was anxious to get started on this new story of hers. Not only did the cover lure me in, I knew from the blurb this was going to be an exciting one.

The concept behind this story was very original and I actually found myself laughing out loud at times about the main character, Elise, though I'm pretty sure it was written to be taken more seriously. Bored from her mundane life, she needed some excitement to get her out of the rut she'd fallen into and that's exactly what she got--in the form of two estranged men, that she ends up calling Manhandler and Driver. The names couldn't be more fitting for these two either.

Taken is very fast paced and the kidnapping itself happens in the blink of an eye. I couldn't get over how Manhandler and Driver had done such little homework on their kidnapping skills. I found myself asking if these two knew what they'd really gotten themselves into.

As is the case with most JC Valentine books, there is a twist when we discover that Manhandler is more than just a kidnapper. He's got a few things up his sleeve and Elise is quick to jump on that opportunity. A little pleasure never hurt anyone, especially in the bedroom!

This was an enjoyable read for me--nothing too deep, just a good light-hearted story with some really unique characters. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something quick and totally different. Though the ending did feel a bit rushed, I hope we get the opportunity for more Manhandler and Elise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expect the Unexpected. Great concept 20 April 2017
By Brigitte - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Taken is not what I expected at all. It's an interesting concept with a bite!

Elise is out of a job and leads a rather boring and lonely life with no family or friends. This suddenly takes the most unusual turn.

She has just done her shopping and on her way to her car when she is grabbed by strong arms and flung into a van. She is being abducted! The two culprits take her to a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Being blindfolded, she doesn't have a clue where she is. Her abductors don't give anything away about their identities or their action. She can only guess that they are running from the law. One is very rough whereas the other appears to be amenable and she is more comfortable in his company.

That doesn't say much about her, with him being her captor and all. They appear to hit it off but then the tides change and she doesn't have a clue on how this is all going to end. Will she go down fighting or will someone come to her rescue?

This novella is very well rounded. It's well paced with good character development. The author keeps up the suspense right until the end when there is the most unexpected twist. It's short, easy to read and a real page turner.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I LOVE J.C. Valentine...when I want a spicy romantic read I'll go to her...

To be honest...when I first read the blurb I thought "this is going to be a weird read." It actually was really good and quick read. The fact that being kidnapped is the only exciting thing that happened to Elise is pretty sad. The author mentions Stockholms Syndrome a few times throughout the kidnapping chapters. Most people who check out the title of this book will agree with that. But if the guy she fell for was genuinely mean then yeah...but that's not the case here. (He's not even a real kidnapped.) shhhhh....
