Product Description

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Shanora Williams comes a steamy, forbidden standalone novel about a college woman who helplessly falls for her best friend's father.

Dear Mr. Black,

I know you were hurting. I heard your cries. I wished over and over again that I could make it better, but as you stated I was too inexperienced; too good for someone as bad as you.
Perhaps you were right, but it didn’t matter because what I did know was that I loved the way you felt—loved the way you smelled. I loved how hard you got for me, and when you called me your Little Knight.
I can still remember that day in the park, when you held me close and kissed me deep. How you effortlessly made me cry your name on top of sweet smelling grass, making me feel like the only girl in the world. I loved how you looked at me, how you spoke to me.
I had been madly in love with you ever since I was twelve years old, but I shouldn’t have been.
Isabelle would have hated it—my best friend. I couldn’t afford to lose her. Besides, you two had already lost enough. Losing Mrs. Black was the epitome.

It’s Chloe Knight.
I wanted to be there for you no matter what, but Isabelle needed me too.
And she would have hated me if she ever found out I was sleeping with her father.

** Tainted Black is a forbidden love-story about a girl who helplessly falls for her best friend’s father. After a tragic accident ends the life of Theo Black’s wife, he turns to the one person he has always found interesting.
Chloe Knight, the girl from across the street, his daughter’s best friend, and a person that is considered completely off limits for him. **

I am rating this one a three star because I did like it but there were aspects of this one that I struggled with, hence the three stars.

Firstly, the writing. I was a little ordinary. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the author sounded "young". It was a bit like reading a high- school students work in the style of writing (NOT the content ;)). There were many examples throughout the book that had me leaving question marks in the margin. Words that didn't work and sentences that seemed kooky. For example: "She was clearly over her bitching and whining, divulging (make known.. private information) in Theo's embrace"- the brackets are mine. Ie divulging does not work here.

And then he's grilling steaks on the BBQ flipping them "back and forth in peace"... um, weird. "y fighting came to a cease" is bad grammar and there was a fair bit of that in this book. "Without minimal thought", "clashing waves", "clashing into him", "I was in a haste to get upstairs" etc.

So that is one star for writing style.

I also didn't really like mr Black. He was dodgy and self absorbed and immature. So another star for his character :)

I did like the premise of this book. I didn't mind the heroine. She was young so she had an excuse for being easily led but a hot 40 year old dick. I think that the story could have been better executed/ edited.

The ending sucked too. I was wondering the whole way through the book how there could be a happily ever after (it read a little autobiographically for me). So I get why it ended the way it did. But it still sucked. I'm glad I didn't like Theo and I understand that people can move on but it does NOT make for a romantic read!

So maybe I will say a 2.5 for this one...

I know this book came with warnings, but come on. There should have been a warning that the ending would not have a HEA.
This book had everything that draws me in, as I love the forbidden element and the struggles the characters go through because of their tragically deep feelings for each other. Life and love is not easy, and very rarely, is there a story without some form of heartache. But seriously, the ending was hideous, and totally took from the rest of the book. I was mesmerised by these characters, and could not put my kindle down. I just felt like crying at the end, and not because of the happy ending. To have Theo and Chloe endure so much and have to hide their love from the rest of the world, they deserved their lives to be spent together. I am not naive in thinking that life and love is all sugar and sweet, but it was tragic that the book ended the way it did. I totally love the work this author delivers, but feel that I just cannot give it anymore than 2 stars. The book was getting a 5 star rating until I got to about 95%. Just did not see how it would pan out until then. Just devastated that their story had this conclusion. BUT, my opinion should not determine whether others decide not to read the book. I strongly encourage others to read the book and decide for themselves, as this author deserves that.

*****5 Hooked Stars*****

Wow, this book held me captive from the moment I read the blurb, it takes you on such an emotional rollercoaster.

As per the warnings this book may not be for everyone, I thought it was written amazingly well and Mr Black did not come across as a perverted older man, holy hell just the total opposite.

Chloe is new to the neighbourhood, he family has moved around for her father’s work, sitting in her room one day she sees new neighbours move in across the road… Meet the Blacks.. Chloe became fast friends with Izzy Black, same age, same interests and the bond they shared was more of a sibling bond. Chloe was taken by the handsome Mr Black from the moment she saw him sitting on the motor bike he road into town on.
When tragedy struck the Black family years later, Chloe was there to support them, their lives had been turned upside down and what was about to go down between Chloe and Mr Black was about to change it all.

Shanora has given us a book full of love, passion and heartache. Throw in a few twists and turns and an ending I wasn’t expecting…

Would defiantly recommend this book.

The book was going well until the last 10% when the whole thing fell apart. I really thought theo and chloe would make it after all the angst and passion. Disappointed to say the least. Also what was chloe's racial background. Her father was african american but no mention what her mother was as chloe is described to look like her father but then at some places she is described as having a tan complexion or olive toned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daddy Black can have me anytime, anywhere. Fabulous, emotional and realistic read from Shanora Williams! 12 September 2015
By RentasticReads - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is the first time in my reading and reviewing history where it took quite some time for me to actually make my write up. To be honest, I still don't know where to begin. This book is heartbreakingly real. I'd like to see it as two soul mates who met at the wrong time in this particular lifetime. Although fate kept on dragging them towards each other, the odds, the entire universe was just against them. I can't tell you enough how much the tale of Chloe and Theo ripped my heart out of my chest, shattered it into a million pieces and stomped on it. This is a story that will seriously give you a book hangover. As for me, I suffered it badly. I had to use my imagination and make up a completely different ending just so that I could cope. Don't get me wrong, the ending was perfect as it is. It's harsh and raw, but it's reality. It's super hot and sexy and all kinds of forbidden love.

Chloe Knight is the most selfless and loyal woman. She keeps blaming herself for things that weren't really her fault. She has loved the man across the street of their house since she was twelve—ever since the entire family of the Blacks moved in. She was so eager to get to know them. The kid her age, Izzy, even became her best friend. But it was that man who rode his bike freely and commanded so much attention, who really intrigued her. She treated them her second family. And the said man of the house—Theo Black? They became closer as he was mostly at home with her daughter. It wasn't Chloe's fault she fell for a man twenty years older than her. It just happened. And I think their proximity didn't really help either. It was such a hard situation to be in. And she tried so hard to keep her emotions to herself because she knew it was wrong. She never wanted to hurt anyone.

Ever since his daughter's best friend blossomed into a woman and started to mature, Theo Black tried his hardest to ignore the electric vibes and sparks lingering between him and Chloe Knight. There was just something about her that draws him in every single time and soothes him. She was like his balm, but he could never really act on this tingling feeling whenever they're close to each other. That is—until one event changed their lives forever. Especially his. He spiraled down the drain so quick and it was always Chloe who rescues him and helps him right himself each night. With one really drunken night, he couldn't tamp it down anymore. This man is so passionate. So intense and raw with so much love to give. I feel like he was the one born in the wrong generation. With the way he was with his Little Knight, you could feel how much he wanted to fight what he was feeling for her, knowing it was wrong and they'd just end up feeling guilty keeping it from his daughter, but it was inevitable. They both lost the battle at some point. And there was no turning back. The more they spent time together, especially that summer, he fell. He fell so hard and so fast for her. Everything he felt for her intensified.

Every single moment these two shared cannot be missed. Each one will forever be engrained to my brain—dear Lord, my poor brain and heart—all the good and intimate ones, even the bad and excruciating ones. The impact of what happened to them from the very beginning of their relationship was very vital and it's like a punch to the gut. It's too piercing and their vehemence will not ever fail to lure you in. Don't even get me started with the ending. My God that ending. It was what destroyed the last thread of strength I had left. It was what finally broke the damn dam. It was soul shattering, mind numbing and I don't know how my heart can recover from it. Although I don't think I will change anything about the ending if I had the chance to. It was what made the story perfect. It is truly genuine. It will make you feel so much, you won't even need to dig that deep.

This is not your typical love story, not your usual kind of HEA. But what I loved most about it, aside from the dynamic of the characters, was how the story was written and well though of. How realistic it is. Yes, you have to seriously brace yourself when you read this book, but don't be afraid to. Just be ready, hold on to your heart, and hope that after reading this one, it survives and is still intact. This one is worth taking the risk. Theodore Black is worth taking the risk. You will most defending regret it if you never met him.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 STARS: THE REALNESS IN LOVE! 10 September 2015
By Nancy's Romance Reads - Published on

Wow, Ms. Williams has done it again! She just managed to make me fall in love with another of her imperfect love stories. This time with a story that was as intense as it was conflicting yet, a story so honest and thoroughly put together. I seriously have to applaud this author's talent because no one has made me enjoy and feel so content about tragic love stories like she does with hers. With Tainted Black she delivers a passionate, beautiful, and flawed romance that captivated me for showing me the realness in love.

“We weren’t a normal fling. We were unusual, rare and, sadly, the unusualness—the reality—was what stood in the way of complete happiness between us.”

This is the story of Chloe Knight and Theo Black. Two characters that should have never crossed paths romantically but fate and circumstances brought them together anyway. And it's that same fate that takes them on a forbidden romance that may cost them everything. You see, Chloe is best friends with Izzy, Theo's only daughter. That makes Theo twenty-years older than Chloe and a very forbidden man. The age difference and their connection to Izzy should have been enough warnings but after Theo's wife is tragically murdered, Theo isn't in a good place and the only one caring for him even at those dark times is that beautiful girl who's lived across from him for the past seven years. That's how at nineteen Chloe can't keep holding in her feelings anymore for that forbidden yet wonderful man she's always loved in secret and so one night she gives in to the emotions just like he does. But then their twisted fate takes them apart to bring them back together again three years later and that's when their beautiful affair really begins.

“I tried hard to fight the chills he gave me, wanting badly to ignore the galloping of my heartbeat. But his smile was too perfect.”

“The way my chest grew hot when I realized it was pure joy I gave her. I had no idea how I made her so happy. I didn’t know what it was about me that she liked so much.”

Chloe is now twenty-two-years old and back home for the summer from college to take care of her sick father. When she sees Theo again the pull they once shared three years ago is tenfold and as much as their attraction and later on deep love may feel wrong, it also feels so right to them that they just can't stay away from each other. Not even when they know their relationship will hurt the one person they both love dearly.

“We ventured into the same blackness I couldn’t seem to escape, sinking further and further into the sea. But being under this sea was different. We could breathe, so it was okay. We could feel and touch and move. Nothing held us back, and nothing saw us. Just like the ocean, our black sea was full of wonders—full of uniqueness and secrecy. It was our place, this vast ocean we lived in. It was for us, and the only way it could have been ruined was if something intruded, messing up the fluidity and transforming it into a menacing typhoon.”

I loved this forbidden romance. The passion, longing, and guilt between these two had my heart squeezing with emotions. At first the age difference and the fact that the characters knew each other since the heroine was twelve made me a little apprehensive but it did't take long for me to completely forget about that because Ms. Williams is amazing about delivering this delicate story. Every moment she creates is perfect making everything feel tasteful, realistic, and mostly she makes you feel these two human characters. That's what I loved the most about this book, how it challenged my perceptions and really made me feel the love for what it was no matter the circumstances.

“The urge to push him away was strong, but not as strong as my need to pull him close and never let go.”

As you can see, Tainted Black is not a sweet or easy love story. No, it's actually a flawed romance about falling in love with the wrong person and following one's heart even when it may lead to heartbreak. But most of all, this is a beautiful love story about learning, about forgiving, and about growing up. I really loved this book and omg, that epilogue was pure perfection! I totally recommend this story if you want to read something captivating, different and real.

“You are my little knight,” he murmured. “My rock. My savior.”

2.0 out of 5 stars Really?! 14 September 2015

The ending was AWFUL! I don't know what to write without spoiling the book for others reading reviews. I loved this book until like the 85% mark because you knew what was happening next and you didn't want it to happen. I feel like the ending of the book suggests that love just isn't enough. I feel like it's saying you have to wait for the perfect conditions to be in love and make it work when in reality, if you love someone that much... You don't care about the "perfect conditions." You make it work.

Also, if you really are in love with someone for that long, you aren't gonna give up just because things aren't perfect. You aren't gonna care about what other people think of you really do love that other person. I'm so disappointed in the ending of this book. It makes me extremely frustrated and I'm really upset I wasted my time on a great book with a s***ty ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Betrayal, loss, lust, sacrifice 11 September 2015
By Judy Z (Bookaholic Confessions) - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
WOW! What do you say after that?
This was my first read by Shanora Williams and I know it is only the beginning!!!

Betrayal, loss, lust, sacrifice!
What an incredible emotional journey I have just been on.

She had a crush from the beginning... and he knew it.
But besides that, they had a bond. A connection. She understood him, and he her.
There was nothing dirty or perverted about it.
They were both of age, yet your very best and practically only friend's dad?
tsk tsk Now that's what made it taboo.

They provided something for each other, risqué or not, it was what they needed.
You could feel the lust and electricity.

Damn Shanora Williams for making Mr. Black so damn hot and delicious!!!

There were also multiple moments of pain and loss. I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion.

They say everything happens for a reason.
Life is tough! Along the way you hope you find love and happiness.
Sometimes you make mistakes. There are times you'll have to make sacrifices.
But ultimately you live and you learn.

"She deserved better than having to deal with my brokenness, a man with no self-control- no guidance. A man with a dark past and an even darker heart. That was my mistake, leading her on like that, taking from her what so clearly didn't justify being mine."

This was definitely an intense emotional journey.

"No one should have to get hurt because two people love each other."

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't understand this ending... this beautiful book with this awful ending just killed me. 18 September 2015

This is the first book I have ever given 2 stars. Wanna know why? Because it was so amazing and beautiful and then when i reached 92% in the book I knew that the ending would be awful... It basically says that true love isn't worth fighting for... The epilogue was... Surreal like... I don't want to spoil the book because I respect the author, but... I'm so disappointed. I'm sorry Miss Williams, I don't understand this ending. I'm so sad...
