Written in 2018, Kurt Seapoint’s book certainly had more relevance in the days and months following the 2016 elections. However, there are many tips in the book that are useful as well as guidelines for how not to run afoul of Twitter’s rules.
As an active Twitter user, I found myself in Twitter jail on one occasion. Unfortunately for me, it wasn’t that I was doing anything wrong. Rather, I did not (at that time) understand the algorithms that might bring my permissible posts to Twitter’s attention (while my texts changed, I was primarily using the same pics as a branding tool – to the Twitter algorithm, this looked spammy and landed me in a 72-hour timeout which prevented me from posting my own tweets. Thankfully, I was allowed to DM to followers and post on their tweets). Based on the you’re-not-currently-allowed-to-post messages I received for three days, I examined my posts and ensured I posted different pics (many times, I would post my logo with a second pic related to the band or show I was posting about…the algorithm must have interpreted this as okay, as I have had no issues since).
I relate the above story as a warning to those looking to advertise on Twitter. It is a great platform to quickly get your message to tens and even hundreds of thousands of people in a short period of time, and knowledge of Twitter’s rules is important. Mr. Seapoint’s book is extremely relevant in this area, and he walks us through all the important areas where one could easily get into trouble. Sections on specific rules and helpful articles are provided, and he also shares suggestions on learning how your profile and privacy settings work (or, at least, how to access these areas and gain more info from Twitter). Though I had already learned much of this through trial and error, I wish I had found this book eight months ago (when I first became serious about networking on Twitter).
Bottom line: While the book was written to address issues that occurred in 2017-2018, there are many helpful suggestions for current Twitter users, especially for those who are new to the platform and wish to share their product or service. Four stars.
