I really did a 180 concerning my view of this product. The traffic has stopped and the carpenter ants are gone! I'm changing my rating to 5 stars. At this point, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this ant bait to anyone. It's as good as it gets...
* First Update
It appears as though I was mistaken. And, I've got to give credit where credit is due. The carpenter ants must have been eating this bait when I wasn't watching. Ant traffic is down to almost zero! This appears to be effective against carpenter ants as advertised.
I purchased this as a defense against carpenter ants. The container and description clearly state that the product is effective for carpenter ants. It isn't! In fact, I placed some in the garage where carpenter ants are entering. The ants walked around it and completely ignored the bait! I must admit, although frustrating, I had to laugh as the ants marched right past the granules. A few even walked right over them completely uninterested. Buyer beware!
This product was supposed to work as a hive killer. Bait the ant route, ant then collects the bait and returns to hive. I had this material in piles immediately along the ant route, the ants walked by it for 10 days evidently not picking any of it up. I am now using a liquid bait from terro and the ants have been collecting it actively day and night for 3 days. Same active ingredient in both products but the liquid is clearly more attractive to my carpenter ants.
I had (past tense) an ant infestation starting out on my gravel driveway. I put . . one . . application of the granules and watched the ants take them into their den (for lack of a better name). I looked again this morning and again this afternoon and there is/was zero sign of activity! From everything I can see, one application killed them off. I am quite pleased with this product!
The initial results were not indicative of long term results (more than two days). By the third day the ants had returned. I then sprayed the mound with "Ortho® Home Defense" and there have not been any since. Was it the combination? I don't know, but I suspect it was the Ortho rather than these pellets.
I ended up purchasing a 10 lb bag of Diatomaceous Earth and it worked wonderfully. I still occasionally see an ant or two, but by and large the problem has been solved. I wish I'd have went with the Diatomaceous Earth from the start and saved my time and money trying the Terro system.
It SHOULD NOT be tracked indoors if you have pets. Ours are indoor only pets and we make certain shoes are off at the door to avoid tracking it inside.
The warning cautions to avoid where there are pets and edibles etc. We keep it away from our fruit trees.
It's probably toxic to other insects and possibly small rodents and the birds that eat them.
This did not work. I've waited over a week before writing a review, and the ants have not changed in quantity. I see them out 24/7, crawling over the product. I've bought Ortho Home Defense as I've heard and seen a lot of positive reviews on it from family and friends.
