But, oh, this foot-bed! (Taos even states on their website, It's all about the foot-bed.) The curves and pods thingy rocks this shoe to a new level. I have had it a couple of days and am wearing them to see if wearing them long-term is the same as wearing for an hour or so. We have an upcoming trip this summer where we will be walking for hours at a time. I'm hoping this fits the bill.
I usually wear an 8, but ordered an 8.5. I wouldn't have been able to get my foot in the 8, so I'm glad I did. I want to wear them without socks and they fit perfect that way. A few reviewers mentioned that the padded little tab at the top of the shoe rubbed their heel. I can feel it as well, but so far it hasn't made wearing the shoe uncomfortable or unbearable. I like these so much, I've ordered the Taos Dandy slip-on model as well in that cute, yellow floral print.
I followed review advice and ordered a 1/2 size larger, but I think my regular size would have been fine.
I typically wear an 8, but after reading the reviews, I ordered and 8.5 and they fit beautifully. The insole is so supportive of my foot! The arch section comes up to my foot rather than being flat inside the shoe. The heels took a few days to break in for me, but stopped rubbing after some walking in them and are quite soft now. Others have reported no rubbing, so perhaps I just have sensitive heels. If you feel some discomfort, just wear some thick socks with them for a few days and you'll be good to go later.
The toe box of the shoe is terribly tight and very uncomfortable.
Cost me almost $20 to return, sooooo not worth it just to try them on!!
I should have paid attention to the fact that returns were not free, won't happen again.
I purchased these originally six years ago in black and white for a trip to Europe. I bought them right before departing and was very pleasantly surprised at not only how no break-in period was necessary but also at how incredibly comfortable they proved to be. I have worn them frequently over the last six years and though they are dirty, they are still structurally solid.
I am heading to Europe again soon, and I found a deal on a white pair in 9 and ordered them thinking I could get away with the smaller size if I stuck with thinner socks. No go. The 9.5 just feels like a safer bet, considering how feet swell. I will say the new pair felt much stiffer compared to my old pair, so they definitely do soften up with time. I'm probably going to stick with my old pair again for this trip since my feet have never once complained while wearing them. I am going to try another reviewer's suggestion of elastic laces as the provided laces definitely require tying and untying each time (something I never do with other shoes).
Long story short, size up and enjoy the support and durability.
