Product Description

In the far distant future, man is no longer man—he is Elder, awash in life-long youth, health, and Gifts of the Mind.

Serving celestial beings known as the Elders, man formed the League, a collection of Great Houses scattered on numerous worlds dedicated to defending life and serving the benevolent will of the Elders.

For ages League mothers have told their children terrifying stories about the Black Hats: the enemy. A sect of Xaphan murderers eager to slay anyone who falls into their grasp, always searching for their next victim.

Only the League’s ruling body, the Sisterhood of Light, has been able to counter their evil. When a Black Hat is taken prisoner aboard Captain Davage’s ship, the Sisters have every intention of executing her, to put her to a slow, painful death. That is what’s done to Black Hats, and no one dares challenge the Sisters’ authority. They are astounded when the Captain refuses to allow it.

Using his Gift of Sight, Captain Davage, the Lord of the Great House of Blanchefort, has gotten a glimpse of the Black Hat’s face, and is shocked. Though no one but a Sister would ever willingly face a Black Hat and hope to survive, he enters her cell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shadow to Silver. Who says there isn't a silver lining in every dark cloud? 7 May 2016
By Kenneth R. Morris - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I read this book out of order, but that just made it feel like a prequel. Great characters, fantastic worlds, all the sci-fi has rules, technology explained, and ART. Did I mention there's art in the book. Hopefully it won't detract from your preconceived notions of how some of our heroes are depicted. There's a bit of naughtiness involved, but it's not x-rated. The fights are well scripted, the scenes on the bridge are fast and frantic. There are defined classes of folk and it helps keep the ideas of roles straight and show the animosity between the 'have's' and 'have not's'

Happily there are more stories in this world and more to come.
5.0 out of 5 stars A smooth jumping off point to the League of Elder series. 25 March 2015
By SiamSam - Published on

First book in the League of Elder series introduces the reader to the House of Blanchefort and the tribulations of its patriarch, Captain Davage. His ex-fiancée, Princess Marilith wants to kill him, and so too does a vile Black Hat sorceress, Sygillis of Metatron. One of these two will end up with his heart, and the other will attempt to stop his heart, permanently.

A completely made=up world of technology mixed with magic and the arcane, the League of Elder is a mash-up of genres that actually works rather well. After a while, these odd characters will seem like old friends.

This book is a solid launching point for the League of Elder series.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have no words 2 April 2015

I have little to no words to describe the love I have for this book. I really liked the characters and the backgrounds. There was only 1 chapter in the whole thing that I did not enjoy, but that's just me. This book introduces you to the world of Elder and makes you want to know more about the "blue" and "brown" caste system Ren has set up. Action, adventure, romance, lust, and super cool powers in an alien retro-futuristic world. Looking for brave women? Looking for dashing heroes? How about a talking seal creature? This book has it all. Oh and there are beings that eat stars and crazy princesses in war make-up.

If you love sci-fi/fantasy, you will like this book. It isn't hard to read, but it isn't one of those "light" reading books either. You read this book to be immersed into the world laid out before you and live with the characters. I could see this being a film or TV show.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is not a quick read. 7 May 2017

This is not a quick read book or series. I had been wanting to write this review for some time but have been too busy reading the next few in the series. The League of Elder characters are strong and likable. So much so that you'll start missing them before you even put the book down.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I said, "I didn't see that coming." There's a surprise around every corner and sometimes in plain "sight" but look closely or you'll miss it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Rollicking Space Opera 1 June 2010

If you enjoy fast paced, rollicking space operas set in a well crafted world, you will love Ren Garcia's "The League of Elder: Sygillis of Metatron". A sometimes dark tale that has a little bit of everything for the sci fi fan; space travel, imaginative weaponry (one of the best aspects of Mr. Garcia's world building is the attention and detail he puts into crafting a history for each and every weapon and aircraft)a touch of romance and a little sword and sorcery thrown in for good measure. Bold story telling and memorable characters make this story a very satisfying read.
