It's two hours past my bedtime, but I had to read to the end to achieve closure on the mystery of the identity of Campbell's father. It is to the author's credit that I didn't actually see the answer coming until it was standing right next to her - a well crafted mystery.
I found the characters realistic in their imperfections and bad choices, and relatable as they grappled with pain, regret, and revelations from the past. The story explores different perspectives, ensemble-style, weaving a three dimensional story in the joys and pains of the characters that orbit around Campbell's mother Suzanne. I genuinely cared what happened to them.
Some of the plot points were a little incredible, but the appealing characters, the charm of the characters, particularly Campbell as the main protagonist, and the quality writing have left me wanting more. I see there are more books in this series - I'm going to go looking for them now.
