Despite the title, this was (happily) not over sweet. The blurb could do with being reworked as it doesn’t represent the book as accurately as it could.
I like Scotty’s femme character and that he is also a top. That’s great representation, without too much of a big deal being made of it.
Overall though, this book didn’t meet the mark for me. It’s very insta - 4 pages in and Nathan is already saying sex will never be the same, and that’s just from a kiss. The writing could be tighter - reusing words in a paragraph, and so much telling rather than showing. Especially from Scotty’s POV.
Not helped by the fact that despite this not being a high school romance, Scotty presents as an immature teenager. He refers to having been in love with Nathan for years, when what he means is he’s had an unrequited crush. He is generally immature and childish, sometimes petty, in his behaviours outside of the bedroom which makes him hard to connect to.
Nathan is a better character, though I feel more time could be spent talking about his background in order to make more sense of his character.
Editing could be better too, there’s a continuity error at the 76% mark which makes later scenes not make much sense. The book isn’t that long, but it definitely lags in the middle and gets a bit frustrating.
Overall, despite some great sex scenes, this is not a favourite from this author.
