Product Description

Gabriel Delvin is three things: a problem, a liar and irresistible. Elijah Beasley’s known that for years. He knew it the first time they fell into bed together, and he knew when he walked away from Gabe, unwilling to put up with more lies. The problem is he keeps going back.
Elijah Beasley is three things: a cop, a fucking problem, and Gabe’s. Gabriel Delvin’s known that for as long as he can remember. It’s why they fell into bed together, and why Gabriel stayed in Green County, when all sense said to get out.
But as the underbelly of crime in Green County comes boiling to the surface, Gabe is forced to chose between the man he’s always loved, and the family who never abandoned him.
Love has never been the problem, for these two.
It just might not be enough, this time…

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Ugly Lies Author 5 May 2017

Title: Sweet Ugly Lies
Author: Nazarea Andrews

4 unexpected stars

i have had the chance to read previous books by Nazarea Andrews in the past, in fact, it was her Wicked Ever After series and loved it as i read more and more from her. Sadly, i wasn't aware that Sweet Ugly Lies was part of a series, that although you can read it as a standalone, i felt as though i was missing some important key factors. Especially when it came to Gabriel and Elijah's history - sure you get a good idea of what's happened and what is happening, but i have a feeling that in the previous books, you really got to know what and how their current situation happened. Not to say that i didn't get a 'feel' of the two, but it seemed as though i was going on 'supposed' or 'maybes'. That being said, i can't express just how impressed i was when i read this book. I had read a menage story by Nazarea Andrews in the past, her novel Wolf had elements of M/M, M/M/F and M/F/M, but to have an entire story based on only an M/M relationship when i had no idea she was able to do so was the pleasant surprise that caught my attention in all the right ways.

4 breath taking dreams

Gabriel and Elijah are incredibly wrong for each other just as they are right for one another. Gabriel is a compulsive liar, but you come to realize that he does so to protect himself after events of his past has made him weary of people leaving him. Elijah is the kind of man that expects others to leave him after they find out just how he really is, but Gabriel, with all his faults and his quirky ways, has always been there by Eli's side no matter what. Beautifully written so that you can't help but get frustrated alongside Eli, exasperated towards Lucas with Gabriel, but most of all, you keep flipping back and forth between wanting to hope that these two can surpass their differences, and yet wonder if they were truly made for one another. Knowing that there are previous books in the series, i know that i'll be revisiting them to find out more about Gabriel and Eli, hoping that i'll get more insight on who they are and what they've gone though.

2.0 out of 5 stars I think Ms. Andrews has potential, but this book just didn't work for me. 15 May 2017
By D - Guilty Pleasures BR - Published on

I thought Sweet Ugly Lies was very uneven. There were several beautifully written passages that grabbed my attention, but there were also repetitive phrases, clunky transitions, and an ending where the obstacle to an HEA (or HFN) suddenly disappeared. I couldn't really connect to either Gabe or Eli, although I found myself more drawn to Eli. His character is a little more developed than Gabe's. From Eli's POV, we do gain some insight to his feelings and thoughts, whereas I didn't feel that with Gabe. Gabe is my least favorite type of hero--the martyr. His behavior is too inconsistent, and his reason for keeping his distance (emotionally, not so much physically) from Eli all these years didn't really work for me. This could have been a stronger book with more plot and character development. The plot thread involving Gabe's brother, Lucas, is interesting, but undeveloped. The characters are too shallow and one-dimensional.The ending felt rushed. An obstacle that keeps a couple apart for nearly a decade shouldn't be wrapped up in a single paragraph. I thought it was an oversimplification of a complex dilemma.

My copy was an uncorrected proof with no scene delineations. I hope the final copy is better, since this made the scene transitions both jarring and confusing.

I think Ms. Andrews has potential, but this book just didn't work for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are my Happily Ever Novel Thoughts... 3 May 2017

Let's talk about this book for a moment. I want you know something very important about this book. I love Nazarea Andrew's writing and this story helped me realize M/M romance stories are my favorite romance tropes. They're passionate, tumultuous, needy, strong, weak, but never whiney. Yes, they may be insecure, but it isn't because they think they're ugly or fat. They are secure with themselves, their insecurities stem from caring too much, wanting too much, and not knowing 100% what they want.

These stories tend to be sweeter yet more explosive. This book is no exception. It's beautifully written and the passion is palpable. There are times it's down right hot.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, Gabe and Eli are a pair of magnets. They are so good together but so bad for each other. They love each other fiercely and have for most of the past decade but Gabe can't stop lying and Eli can't stop running.

I got frustrated a few times at each one and almost in the same instance I wanted to tell them everything will be okay. I felt like I was reading about my friends or family.

Don't get caught in the middle, but enjoy the tug of war push and pull off Gabe and Eli looking for their Happily Ever After.

Sweet Ugly Lies is the continuation on Andrews' Green County Series. I haven't read the other in the series and while there are some things that would be clearer, I did not feel as if I were missing any vital information. Sweet revolves around the highly dysfunctional relationship between Gabe, a baker by trade and Eli, a local cop. For ten years, the two have had an on again, off again "relationship". Tangling the mess of the two is not only Gabe's failure to speak plainly and honestly with Eli but there mutual relationships with friends and family.

This is a decent enough story, though both men are hard to "love" as characters. They both are made up of many flaws and those flaws are what seem to keep them together as well as pull them apart. There were several times within the book that I just wanted to shake Gabe or yell at Eli to wake up. The author's pacing is at times choppy which interferes with getting "into" the book.

Overall, this a good read which reveals a lot about the inner workings of Gabe and while I didn't agree with Eli's decision, I couldn't argue with it either.
4.0 out of 5 stars Is it a lie if you're telling it to protect someone? 4 May 2017

Is it a lie if you're telling it to protect someone? Maybe, maybe not. For years Gabe has been lying to Eli .Their relationship has been on and off because of it. But finally, after years of lying Gabe has decided to come clean and tell Eli what he has been hiding this whole time. Hoping that this isn't the end of them and that they can truly be together.

Gabe and Eli are both wonderful characters. On one hand I wanted to hug Eli and slap Gabe and on the other hand I wanted to hug Gabe and slap some sense into Eli. These two belong together. They have a lot of history and love between them. I really liked the story line and the writing was great. You're going to love it.
