Small town. Big secrets. Welcome to Sweet Ridge.

Gage Cooper has always wanted the family cabin. Not only for the oil on the property, but as a way to prove to his father that Gage's past doesn't define his future. Charlotte Wilkinson never expected to inherit a piece of property in Sweet Ridge, Texas - the Aussie businesswoman is focused on building an environmental analyst career here in the States. But the moment arrogant oil-man Gage Cooper walks into her office accusing her of seducing his father, all plans for selling the property to him fly out the window.

Then fate threatens to send her back to Australia and the dueling duo are forced to accept a fake marriage to keep their dreams alive. But as they discover common ground and a surprising chemistry together, suddenly Gage must decide what's worth more: the land he's always coveted or a future with Charlotte.

Sweet Texas Fire is a sweet love story that creates a slow burning romance that's sure to please readers. The author, Nicole Flockton, has created two believable characters, and plunked them in a unique situation. I've always loved the enemies to lovers trope and that's exactly how this story starts out.

I loved Gage and Charlotte's reactions to each other when they meet in person for the first time. Charlotte anticipated meeting a billionaire who resembled Colonel Sanders, and her jaw dropped open when Gage entered her office. "Why, oh why, couldn't he have a beer gut instead of a flat stomach..." Gage expected a "scorned middle aged woman," and found a spirited redhead with a tempting mouth and "sexy as hell" accent.

Though I suspected where the plot was going--and loved every second of it--Flockton still pulls out some surprises and plot twists in this fast read.

Sweet Texas Fire checks a lot of the in-trend boxes--billionaire bachelor, marriage of convenience, and enemies to lovers. I highly recommend this book to lovers of contemporary romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a read. 21 April 2016

Gage Cooper wanted to regain his Father’s approval after he wasted an opportunity to make his family proud. Charlotte Wilkinson is an environmental analysis that has no problem standing up the self-assured oil man. Except Charlotte has the one thing, Gage thinks he wants. One of them will soon learn what is like to have someone support them and go out on limb.

The characters are likable and share fun banter between to the two of them. The change between Gage and Charlotte is believable and has a happy ending.

This would be a good read for a Contemporary Romance fan that wants a little heat in the love scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars * Though she fell in love with it upon seeing it 13 April 2016

Gage, still reeling from the loss of his father and the oddness of his Dad's will, is also trying to figure out how to get things running smoothly in his business again. Unfortunately, the new employee for the environmental agency he uses always seems to have some issue or another. Now, she also owns a piece of land he thought he would own, as in she received it from Gage's Dad, per the will. Wait, what?

Charlotte, who takes her job very seriously, understands Gage's professional need, yet also wants to ensure the surrounding area of his focus is properly protected and able to recuperate quickly after his company is finished with it. Makes sense to me.

As the two have continually butted heads for months, they've both mentally conjured up images of the other. As they have their first face to face meeting, they both realize how wrong they were. *Here I'm picturing both as cartoon characters with their tongues hanging down enough to roll up and their eyes bugging out of their heads. LOL* Unfortunately, there's also the matter of Gage's insinuation on just how Charlotte got his Dad, Jack, to leave her the land. Is Charlotte still attracted? Yes. Is she also ready to throttle him now though? Emphatically yes.

But as they spend a little time together, it quickly becomes apparent the attraction is mutual and intense. However, there's some kinks thrown at them. One of them being, Charlotte can't sell the land for at least a year. *Oh Jack, you sly man you.* Though she fell in love with it upon seeing it, she can also see that it means a lot to Gage, but the will's stipulation is legal. Then there's the added issue of Charlotte being unable to stay with her current employer, due to them losing some clients, which means her work visa will expire and she'll need to go back to Australia. Until Gage comes up with the idea of them getting married to solve their problems. This way she can get a green card and he can have the land to drill oil, as the land is now his as well by marriage, with the condition that he wait until the year is over.

But things aren't going as smoothly as they had hoped. The green card process isn't as simple as they had first thought and their attraction is getting stronger every time they're together.

Now the question remains as to what Gage will decide is more important. The land, and by proxy the oil available on it, or his marriage which seems to get a little more real each day? If he chooses wrong, will Charlotte ever be able to forgive him once he realizes his mistake? Will Gage's plan to show what she means to him succeed? Will they get their HEA? Are the conditions of Jack's will completely coincidental or was he playing matchmaker with the uncanny ability to know exactly what, and who, his three sons needed? Hmmm...that's a very good question.

One-click now and find out what happens. This is a cute story with it's interesting characters and the unique twist on the marriage of convenience plot that it provided. I really liked it. I would definitely recommend this book. On a side note, please be aware that this is book two in the Sweet Texas Secrets series, and while I wasn't aware of that prior to starting the book, I also didn't feel at all lost while reading. The author did a good job of including enough information from the previous story as to let me know the gist of what had transpired in it. But I am off to track down book one so I can read the full story on how Gavin, Gage's older brother, and Macy, a famous country singer, found their HEA. I'm looking forward to book three which should be Grayson's story and I have an idea about who his leading lady will be. I can't wait to see how that plays out.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Read 13 April 2016
By Books Laid Bare - Published on Amazon.com

A steamy push me, pull me read one that I wasn’t sure how it was going to go but thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
Gage Cooper and Charlotte Wilkinson are on opposite ends of the same piece of string so to speak, Cage’s business is oil and Charlotte is a passionate environmental analyst. So as you can imagine, when they lock horns across the boardroom table it is explosive.
Neither are great at backing down but when Gage’s father leaves some land to Charlotte, yep you can imagine how went down. He is furious that his father would do that to him and is determined to do whatever he can to get “his” land back.
Now I was a little sceptical about his plan when he put it to Charlotte that they could both gain what they wanted by entering into a marriage of convenience. Charlotte only had a work visa and was hoping to get her Green Card, while Gage he just wanted the land. I could have throttled him at this point and if I am honest at numerous points throughout the story he frustrated the heck out of me.
I liked Charlotte, she was feisty but Gage he was a work in progress for me. I got that he was a businessman to the core and that he was often looking at the bigger picture but he had blinkers on much of the time and I just felt like yell at him to open his eyes and take a good look at the love that Charlotte was offering him. Yes, the time the spent together was hot and steamy but was it enough?
When Charlotte finally has enough and walks, it is only then that he may finally get his head out of his ass and realises that he may just have lost the best thing he ever had!
There are some brilliant secondary characters, especially Gage’s family they really lit the story for me and I am looking forward to reading more from them.
There are a few twists and turns as the story unfolds and then there is the mystery box!
