Product description

Product Description

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with a brand new funny, romantic, sexy story!

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.

I have never read a book with only the guys perspective before. It was a delight to read. No sappy, overly dramatic, too emotional moments. It felt more real? That's a question mark because there are books with the heroines perspective that do feel real but mostly it incorporates with a lot of emotions. This book gave it a guys perspective.
I loved the storyline. It didn't just focus on tje hero and heroine but more with the family. It was good. This book made me feel. It had angst and a lot of humour. It was sweet, actually. Made me cry too. I loved it.

Emma is good at nailing books from a guys perspective & this one doesn't disappoint.

Chelsea is left to care for her brothers 6 kids after his death. Shes young but gives everything up to do so. As for Jake he likes the girl but the kids not so much. Join them on an interesting journey together.

Quite a touching read with a bit of hotness.

I didn't think Emma Chase could beat Overruled but I was wrong - Sustained was funny, fast, sexy and just an all round great read. You really love all the characters.
The antics that surround one bachelor attorney, the object of his affection, and the six children that have been left under her care in the wake of their parents' deaths are everything from completely heartwarming, to hilarious to downright heartbreaking. True, the circumstances that have brought these people into each other's lives are tragic. And true, it all feels very precarious. I consistently wondered who'd break first under the pressure, letting this house of cards come crumbling down. But in the meantime, this bizarre dynamic, this unconventional family of sorts had me bent over with laughter, had my heart soaring with joy. Their banter, their trials, the drama that plagues them was so perfectly plotted out. I was completely consumed with this book.
Emma Chase is such a smart writer. She digs deeper than most writers do into her characters personalities, their thoughts, those details that separate them from everyone else and then she delivers them to the reader so in such a way that there's no stone left unturned. She personally introduces you to the psyche of her characters. She makes you look at life, at people, at even the most mundane things in a way you never did before. She's a genius at characterisation. At dialogue. At humour. At romance. At sex. At storytelling.
The transformation of Jake from playboy to family man happens slowly and realistically which makes you love him more. Chelsea is just a fabulous character full of wit and takes all the chaos of 6 kids in her stride. I would give this book 10stars if I could. Read of the year.

I love Emma Chase’s heroes, she writes the perfect blend of an arrogant a..hole who will have you swooning like you would for the s€xy McSteamy straight from Grey’s Anatomy. Sustained is a heartwarming story that will have you laughing out loud. For those of you who loved the Tangled series you are going to love Jake!

Jake is at the top of his game as a defence attorney who doesn't always represent the innocent. He’s also a playboy with no intentions on settling down, his focus is his career. After a scare with a recent hookup he takes a step back and decides to changes his ways and try dating. Then he meets Chelsea, he wants to try with her only thing is she comes with baggage.

Chelsea’s life was turned upside down when her brother and his wife died, she gave up college and now has custody of his six children. She has a lot of responsibility for someone who is only 26, with the children ranging from baby to teen. A life for herself is no longer and dating is the last thing on her mind...until she meets Jake.

Jake’s life has always been about order and his career but when you're seeing someone with six kids your life is chaos. He may seem settled but he starts to question and doubt himself. Can he really settle down and take on six kids as his own?

I adored these characters and I can't speak highly enough of Jake, he will warm you heart. Jake and Chelsea’s connection was instant but I loved how their relationship gradually came together. Chelsea is a beautiful soul she didn't have time for games and took Jake and his uncertainty in her stride. Jake and his moments with the kids will have you swooning.

I had seen Emma Chase’s name around the www and when the opportunity became available to grab Sustained, I couldn’t resist. Ms Chase has now become a favourite, I absolutely loved Sustained and also listened to the audiobook of Overruled. And again it was fabulous too. I haven’t read a book surrounding lawyers previously and was extremely happy when I didn’t find a whole lot of legal jargon that would have just confused me. The characters were fabulous and who wouldn’t fall in love with Jake Becker.

Jake Becker is a thirty year old defence attorney that rebuffs relationships. If his hook-up leaves without a hitch the morning after, he may meet up with her again, otherwise it’s only once. The problem is, when he meets Chelsea McQuaid, thoughts of other women go straight out the window and Jake finds himself becoming attached very quickly to her and her 8 nieces and nephews.

Jake is known for his stature in the courtroom, never being intimidated by anyone. He was a bad boy who was turned into the lawyer he is today, by hard work and determination from one the most respected Judges in the business.

After having the longest two weeks of his life, he is introduced to a nine year old with a chip on his shoulder. When he takes Rory home, he’s astounded to discover a beautiful woman looking after a menagerie of children by herself.

Chelsea McQuaid is superwoman, through tragedy she became the guardian of her nieces and nephews ranging in age from infant to fourteen. At twenty six, she put her life on hold to become the person the children needed.

Jake cannot get the superwoman out of his head. Her strength, determination and patience is innumerable. He seems to jump when she asks and falls deeper without realising it.
