"The overall consensus in the book is that overcoming depression takes time and demands a seriousness of intent. Given Nicholls' clear and inspiring prose, these difficulties do not seem insurmountable, even to those who may be currently suffering from depression, but especially for those who may be caring for a person suffering. The tone is gentle enough that it can be effective for all readers, given Nicholls' knowledge and experience. His writing is concise, thought-provoking, and laden with useful references for carers and sufferers alike. Surviving the Darkness will doubtless be invaluable to anyone who has a diagnosis of depression and anxiety, presenting a realistic portrait of the many possibilities for complete recovery." - Self-Publishing Review, ★★★★★
"A compact guide to coping with depression. Nicholls advises that "there is no fixed menu of options," but his overview of 20-plus strategies, including "Do not expect too much too soon" and "Set Limits," supplemented by lessons learned and "failed options," is likely to be exceptionally helpful to readers in similar situations...Nicholls writes succinctly with a keen sense of compassion and understanding. Candid, reflective, and illuminating." - Kirkus Reviews--This text refers to the paperback edition.

I suffer from depression, anxiety and anger issues. This is the first book I've actually looked at in years. Many, many years. I usually find it hard to concentrate and read. But this book has helped.
I would recommend the book to anyone who is going through Anxiety or Depression or even families who have a family member experiencing the same.
It will help readers understand what they are going through and provide helpful tips on how to recognize the triggers and overcome them.
