Valuable lessons in Music and Life12 August 2017 - Published on Amazon.com
I kept nodding in resonance as I read through this brief, wise book. Like Baird, I first started studying music seriously at age 26, and felt regret that I was already "too old" to become "a real musician." Ha! Fortunately, by learning many of the same lessons Baird did, along the way, that attitude had completely vanished by the time I took up harp at age 45. As Baird eloquently describes of himself, pursuing my passion for music led me in creative directions I never anticipated when I started: performing, composing, recording, teaching, meeting incredible people, developing more courage to be myself. It didn't even take a half-hour to read through this book, but I finished by I'd been on an affirming journey revisiting the most important and lasting lessons acquired over more than 54 years of music-making and passionate living. Take the time to read this book - you'll be glad you did.

I have been playing music for many years but some of these lessons are ones I had never thought of in relation to music. The concept of being able to surrender to music by remembering the life lessons Gerry mentions will make anyone appreciate playing or listening to music more than they already do. And the lessons can be applied to anything in your life, not just music. The book is written in a very easy to read style that feels more like you are having a conversation instead of reading a book. This is a definite recommend to anyone, musician or otherwise.

The book gave me some ideas on how to value time for piano practice and how the love for piano is viewed from a different perspective.

It made me want to start piano lessons. Very inspiring and easy to read. My children are taking piano lessons. Maybe I should join them? :)
